what does the sensor on the bottom of the power steering pump do?

what does the sensor on the bottom of the power steering pump do?

the wire on the sensor on the bottom of my power steerin pump broke, i have the pump with 1 hardline on top, i was wonder exactly what this sensor is for

It's the power steering pressure sensor. It's for the wheel speed or rpm speed adjusted power steering (depends on model)

It's a pressure sensor. It detects when the power steering is being used and activates the power steering relay, which opens the air supply calve, which increases idle speed so that the extra load from the power steering pump doesn't stall the engine. It's not essential for the operation of the power steering, but it could be the cause of frustration.
