what does fuel pump pre filter look like?

I searched my haynes manual and the forum and I've diagnosed my left turn fuel cut as a problem with the fuel pump pre filter but I'm not sure if I picked up the right part. Is it just a filter about the size and shape as a tea bag?

Yes. It goes on the base of the fuel pump.

anybody know how to remove the filter? There is nothing in the Haynes manual and I don't have an FSM. I assume its pretty easy but I'd like to know before I open up the gas tank.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know about your car, but mine was a LOT bigger than a teabag...you have to remove the pump assy from the tank, then remove the pump from the support bracket to get the sock off...not a big deal, just remember to disconnect the battery neg terminal and put out the doobie before you start...

The stock one is a big *** box. When I bought my Walbro pump kit the new filter was a small teabag. There was a thread about the small teabag filter vs. stock OEM sock/box. IIRC there is a small metal ring that you need to pry off. I used a eyeglass screwdriver.

www.fc3s.org for a link to the fsm. To get at it you just lift up the carpet in the hatch and take out the semi circle of 10 or so screws.

Just so you know ilike2eatricers, when you go to edit post, the very first option is 'delete post'.

Last time I checked only Mods could use that option.

Anyways. Stock thing is a ovalish rectangle thing.
Their usually 10 years old so you might as well replace them.

The Walbro is a smaller teabag style.

You know Walbro's are only $95

Swapping filters is easy. I had never done that before and I installed the new pump in 10 minutes.

There is a little clip/ring on the bottom which you will have to pull off. Remember to keep it! Slip the filter off and then put the new one on and clip the ring on. Don't forget the rubber boot so you don't ground it out.
