...an automatic WS-6 Trans Am?

You see, at my g/f's H.S., there're these kids whose daddies bought them WS-6 T/As for their 16ths. I constantly see them TEARING up and down the road here, and would like to show them that my $4k car can beat their $28k cars Plus, my girl likes to talk smack, and I'd like to be able to back her words up...

So... what sort of 1/4 numbers do they put down? Oh, and yeah, I know that I can beat 'em around a turn, but there aren't many turns here... So what's it take, starting completely stock?

intake,exhaust, fcd, fuel pump, safc. then a 50 shot of nitrous might do the trick!

or rebuild your turbo with a to4 compressor and get an extre fuel injector (720) installed with the haltech f5 controlling it. right after the i/c before the throttle body. of course you would have to do the intake, exhaust, fcd first

 

First, mod your browser to point to the kills section. Then launch a search for WS6 .

Personally, I'd invite them out to the autocross where the ground would be a little more level. If you're really enterprising, get a video tape of them ripping around and hand copies of it to the cops and their parents . Maybe then they'll be relegated to driving something as horrible as a Camry

 

Get a full exhaust, FCD, Intake, larger secondaries... and then hope that they smoke their tires off the line... then you'll take them.

I've been driving my Dad's 2002 WS6 (6-speed) lately since I've been working on my FC, its a sweet car to drive, but not to turn... it handles like a pig... no, worse than that... it handles like an elephant. But that torque is FUN! Can't wait to get the 20b fired up

 

I agree, the key word is, the kids are 16 years old....Granted they are all cocky, but they there is no way they can drive worth a ****, let alone handle the power of a transam....

I would say, full exhaust, intake, larger secondaries, fcd, super afc to tune things up a little bit, then If you took out your air/pump/ shitty a/c. I bet you would take him.

Now, if they were a little bit older and could drive the car, That still wouldnt be enough.

I seriously doubt that some 16 year old punks can handle that transam to its full potential...there is just no way. I've been driving/racing/ for 4 years, (not very long) and I might consider myself a pretty decent driver, but Im still a long way from being able to edge every bit of potential out of my turbo.....

 

A WS6 does 0-60 in about 5 flat, and the quarter mile in 13.5 @ 107. These times are for a manual, so add a couple tenths to both for the automatics. You've got a ways to go to get a stock TII to that level.

On a personal note, my second car was an 87 TII (still have it though....I'm not letting that one get away!) and my current car is a 95 Trans Am (no WS6, it wasn't offered that year), so I have a lot of experience with both cars. The TA is much faster in a straight line, but there is a lot of potential in the TII motor, you just have to know how to get it out, and doing so isn't exactly cheap. Acceleration is all about power to weight ratios, and the TII weighs less, so you won't need to match the horsepower numbers of the WS6.

As for handling, my personal opinion is that the TA's handling is far from being like a "pig" or "elephant". They are different from the RX-7. Actually they are great handling cars, you just have to get used to and know how to deal with their width and weight, and most especially the live axle rear end. If those cars had independent rears they would be phenomonal. They are big, low, and wide, but you don't start to get really hampered by their weight until you start getting into really tight corners and switchbacks, like slow second gear conrners. They stick like crazy though steady state, they just aren't as good at quick transitions. They have very good handling characteristics and are easy to steer with the throttle. They aren't the best autocross car, but once the speeds get higher like on a road course they start to shine. So in faster corners ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT (that damn live axle!) I would say the cars are equal, and it is going to come down to tire selection and DRIVER SKILL more than anything. The TII by comparison gives much more driver feedback...you really feel connected to the car. They are a little harder to drive smoothly, but once you get in a rythm they are very rewarding cars to drive. They are much more adept at intiial turn in and switchbacks. All in all, the TA is a faster car hands down, but the TII is probably more fun to drive.

 

Or just borrow a third gen. LOL

When I was 16 I would consider myself to be very good at racing cars (street drag racing). It's more about experience and how smart you are than age... I've been driving standards since I was 9 and autos since I was 11. But it's true they PROBABLY can't drive worth a ****.

 

I have tied an 02 ws6 auto with just full RB exhaust, intake and fcd. This was from a bottom of 2nd-4th gear roll. It is possible, although that is the only one I have beaten. I race my friends 99 6 speed all the time, 1-2 we are dead even, when he hits 3rd (i am still in 2nd) he starts pulling good, but by no means does he rape me. He can drive too.

 

um, first mod you should do is to throw that rotary engine into the nearest woods. Then spend $1500 on a Grannys swap kit, and abother $1500 on an LT1 and a T56 and ECU/Wiring. Go from there. Beat them at their own V8 powered game

Don't forget, a lot of it has to do with the year of the TA. The LT1 powered cars won't put up as much of a fight as the LS1s.
