what do you think of narrowing a TII rear end?

for my Datsun 510 project i'm taking the motor and trans from a 88 TII and now I'm thinking about the hole rear end too. it will need 2inch taken off each side. does this sound possible with some cutting and welding? and shorting the half shafts?

Why not just get shorter half shafts and call it a day?

+1, just use the Datsun's mounting points and fab up some stuff. Prolly a lot easier than hackin up an FC rear end.

The rear end would get left alone, I would think, but the axles would get modified or replaced. I'd say you'd want to get one piece ones custom made from chromoly rather than trying to cut/weld/whatever stock axles. But then, I am neither a racer nor a fabricator, so there may be others who would disagree.

yeah, the rear end assembly should be thin enough to fit under your 510, you'll just need custom length axles. Talk to the guys at The Driveshaft Shop if you need some nice chromoly pieces made.

well the wagon is a solid rear end and i cant get a lsd for it so i was thinking that since i have this stuff in my garage it might work. if i shorting the half shafts i will need to move the trailing arms in also thats the part i was thinking i would need to cut and move 2inch on each side. know what I'm saying? and then i have a lsd that should hold up to the power and it has the right gearing and the drive shaft will also be close.
