Talking What to do with the Smog Pump? (CAI)

I'm installing a custom CAI for my car. What do I do if I want to retain the smog pump? (Which I do, so please, no "just throw it out" suggestions.)

I have seen one CAI with the stock smog pump hose and some goofy looking K&N filter on the end. Is that necessary? Can I just leave it with an open hose in the engine bay? What are my other options or retaining it?

Put a small $3 breather filter on the hose going into the air pump. When I didn't have one the car would stall sometimes. Once I put one on, all was well.

Well, alot of people run with the air pump sucking unfiltered air for years and have no problems. Myself, I would get one of these..

http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fcintake.html (scroll to the third last item.)

This filter is designed to attach directly to the inlet of the air pump. Many have needed a simple and effective way of filtering the air pump air without having to run a separate hose and connection to the turbo intake. Here’s your solution. Comes pre-oiled and ready to install.

So until that filter arrives from Rotary Performance should I run open hose or open air pump? Basically should I leave the hose on or not? Does it matter?

you just want to keep any debris from entering the air pump, it's a pump designed to move fluid - air... solid debris can break it.
