hey guys, I have a S4 motor I just finished tearing down. I'm an N/A owner going turbo. Other than a rebuild (which I'm contemplating) what should I do while it's out? Here's what i'm thinking so far
Remove and block off
EGR
ACV
BAC
Vac spider
Banjo bolt replacement for FPD
I want to send the injectors to be cleaned and possibly do some gasket match porting on the intake.
Being a N/A guy, I'm not that familiar with a few other things. Shoul I mess with the wastegate? what would you do?

CLEAN THE ENGINE BAY!!! Get in there with a scrub brush and 5 gallons of simple green and go to town, then paint it. Get everything out that can be unbolted from the firewall and fenderwell and clean it up and paint it too.
A clean engine is awesome, but put it in a dirty engine bay and it looks like hell.

no, thats true. I already planned on doing that. I am also going to duplicolor a lot of stuff after seeing that other post. I'm speaking more about performance and removal of useless items. But thanks for the idea!
yeah, I hear you aaron. The FPD isn't leaking so maybe i'll just check if the screws still tight and use it? I know theres somewhat of a debate over the banjo bolt. what else would you do?
I really don't want to put this in my car and have a list of things I SHOULD have done. TID? TB Mod? All emissions removal. Is this too many things at once?

You can install a brand new Mazda PD, since it will be good for another 20 years or so.
Or install the Marrin PD, which requires some modification. Or, use the S5 fuel rail, which has an integrated PD that is less prone to leaking.
Nothing wrong with the TB mod, but you really don't see any worthwhile gains. If you do it, just don't remove the cold start stuff. As for emissions removal, you gain nothing but loose a lot.
