What do the earths that connect to the starter bolt do

What do the earths that connect to the starter bolt do

Im having some dramas with my FC as some of you may have seen. its having trouble starting scince i changed the flywheel in the weekend and was wondering if its got something to do with those earths ( im at work and the thought came to me so i thought id ask)

It's the Major return for every electrical circuit for the engine (read ECU). And the starter. Outside of that it's not very important in the scheme of things.

THe same negative cable makes contact with the chassis below the left strut tower and provides the major return for items like the headlights, logicon, taillights wipers, radio, you name it.

ok thanks. I started my eng up on tueday and it sounded like it was running on 1 rotor. it wouldnt start on monday ( only tried twice ) and fired up strait away on sunday after we put the gearbox back on. so im trying to figure out whats going on and the probable causes
