I think what skater has is the downpipe/preslilencer combo. The downpipe connects the presilencer to the stock exhaust manifold. Its for people that want to eleminate all the cats but dont want the full header.
I've got a video of my car sitting on a video camera, but I'm not quite sure how to get it on the computer. If I figure it out soon, I'll post it. Theres actually a post I saw kinda recently with several exhaust clips on it. In short, the presilencer eliminates the classic "rotary" sound, which is a kinda raspy buzz sound. I actually kinda like it, but most people find it annoying. The cats accomplish basically the same thing.
Edit:The video actually has a before and after or the exhaust leak, so you can hear the difference. I'll see if I can get it downloaded somehow.

another question - Will it be harmful to the car if I run the car with just headers and the y pipe? w/ o the rusting out stock mufflers?

I have a feeling it will be loud as ****. I'm running RB headers, stock main cat, and RB catback and couldn't be happier. That is...until I get my RB presilencer installed

no, I know it will be loud as hell.. but I'm asking if it will damage any internals or subject to any damage to the car.. not the loudness

Your car will be fine. You just want to run it without mufflers, but mantain the stock catback?

What do you guys think about the RB header/bonez cat combo from rx7.com to a corksport exhaust with an XR-1 fitted on the corksport right after the cat, with a RB Pre-silencer section to replace the cat for non-emissions running, but maintain backpressure for aux ports. Is there something better to run in place of either of the presilencers? If that isn't quiet enough for me (don't really care much, car will be tracked) I suppose I can always replace the corksport muffler with something bigger in the long run as well.

Economical system which offers good performance and a low, baritone sounding exhaust note. Our best selling system. Installed in cars producing up to 400WHP.

RP 50mm Cat-back - 86-91
Price: $395.00

Reading is fundamental .

I still think that the RB header/presilencer (or header/bonez cat, depending on emissions) combination would be good with using a sweet sounding Borla Cat-back. Great gains and a long lasting exhaust for the money.
