What causes rear wheel hop?

What causes rear wheel hop?

I assume it means the rear struts are probably in need of replacement, but are there any other factors to consider? Differential mount bushings possibly?

I have a '89 TII I purchased new and still have the original suspension parts. Have never experienced wheel hop, even with the 235 Toyo's, or the 245 Falken's.
