What causes the front cover o-ring problem?

My oil pressure has been starting to drop to around 5 psi at hot idle. I get around 40-60 when under load. Pressuer is great when its cold. Ive read about the different castings and using the teflon/nylon washer.

Is it the o-ring pinching or expanding?

Can a thicker o-ring be used w/ just sealant on the cover instead of a gasket to get a better seal?

My car doesnt leak a drop of oil and is all nice and clean under the hood. I only want to pull the cover 1 time and fix it.

Thoughts?
