What can get you extra HP on a GXL???

I want a GXL for a car. Probly gonna have a 86-88 so 142hp stock. What would I need to get some more HP. 200hp would be GREAT but that would probably cost me quite a bit. What will I need to do. And will I need fuel upgrades?
What about a supercharger. I guess they run about 4-6psi. I figure "around" $3k, How much HP can you get from one.
Also what is a good size wheel for a FC. I'm thinking 17"

Also I'm thinking full exhaust. either hi-flows or no cats. Possibly RB

Start with the basics. New intake, air inlet headlight cover, gut your cats, get a new exhaust system, get a different ECU, and run a lighter flywheel. Also, there's a site that tells you how to modify your throttle body: http://www.k2rd.com/FC3S/HOWTO/TBM/tbm.html
And that should free up some horsies. I know a guy with a supercharged RX7, and it runs great. Of course, I'm gonna buy it off of him...
After you do those basic mods, you should get about 180-190HP...or so I've been told. I just got mine and haven't started playing with it yet, so I can't be an accurate judge.

after all with supercharger, or all but supercharger you get 180-190? That would be FANTASTIC to get that without a S/C also is that on a 86-88 or 89-91

You should have 170-180 RWP w/o the supercharger depending on what shape the car is running in & what mods you used. If you check out mazdatrix.com & look at the racing section you will see the full dual racing exhaust setup that dynos a 28% increase in RWHP. Thats what i am saving up for as we speak. Its expensive but hopefully worth it.

First off, What different ECU to get?
Second. Will bigger plug wires and different plugs help?
Third. What is the general consensus on porting?

First off....the one I am looking into is made by mdrace.com. Looks to give 25 more Hp, 15% more torque & 5 MPG. $300

Second...plugs & wires will prolly not give you any noticeable gains but should help your car run better. I like NGK.

Third...porting prolly shouldn't done unless rebuilding anyways, & just a mild street port for a daily driver.

Hope that helped

Heck, just replacing the fan with an electric one is worth 10 HP warm on that car.

Header/exhaust, intake, fan, light flywheel and slightly advanced timing (useing preminum gas) should all and all get you about 25 to 30 HP right there.

SWEEEEEEET 25HP and 5MPG.
You'd need to refill like 4 times just starting it ;-)

i know i was joking. Any other ECUs can compare to that one or what? Its not gonna be very crazy so haltech just goes down the drain but its nice to dream lol.
And which exhaust do you guys like. What about Apexi N1 Duals. I like em but heard theyre loud and heard RBs are gay cause theyre too quiet.
Figure 165-200hp FC

Thats a disappointment but good to know ahead of time. No gains at all? Thanks.

Good question...

Where can we get the best "possble" supercharger for the 2g rx7s? "Atkins" make them I think, but is there any others? What are the figures of power increase? Realiablity?

Anyone konw?

didn't atkins have roots style (like on old muscle cars) and the main part of the ones used on RX-7s are paxton centifugal superchargers which are basically a belt driven turbo

I know what will add extra HP to a GXL. By finding some way in hell of getting the water pump pulley back on. How you do it, I have no idea.

Was just real irritated about getting my water pump pulley back on but now its ok, just snapped the bolt to adjust the alternator so can't figure out how to fix it. Got the broken part out, just don't know where to get a bolt.
