there are basically 4 parts to the emissions system.
the air pump, acv, main cat and the tps. if you have all of these in working order it should pass

ok, let me be a little more specific. the car has a 3" racing beat downpipe, 2 1/2" midpipe and Apexi N1 cat back, the air pump has been removed and is long gone. now what can be done to make this thing pass the test? obviously the fumes that this thing spews are enough to knock down every tree in the forest so as soon as the car is pulled up to a garage they're going to know something is up.

wow dude calm down you dont have to go ape **** on us were just trying to solve a problem.
Anyways Twisted i left you a message today about this problem and i apriciate you trying to help me solve ive actually been in here since yesterday trying to figure it out. I think im going to simply throw an old exaust system in from an 87 TII and hope it passes with all the stuff off and just see if i can get lucky. Maybe ill pass maybe i wont. If not i have a parts car at home i guess i can simply take the airpump off that car and try to pass that way

half a quarter tank is an eigth of a tank.

Alcohol burns cleaner than gasoline. Rubbing alcohol is not the way to do it though. You need to find someone who sells alternative fuel alcohol. The car will run on it straight but it rots the rubber seals. (not good to have all your fuel system o-rings leaking) The alternate route is to get fuel system de-icer isopropel at $10 a gallon its not cheap but you only need a gallon or two of fuel in the tank to pass the test. You don't want to run that stuff straight though. Maybe 25% OH to gas ratio.

well the most important thing to do is to get the car nice and hot. My frend works as a smog guy person, and ever time i go to him he says to run it on the freeway in hi rpm to get her hot.

yeap i second the hot notion plus if you dont have pre-cats which you dont then it has to be hot becuase your precats are for when the car is just started up and nice and cold
your either gonna spend some money on replacement emissions parts or find some stock parts to throw on there but just think its only for the time you go to get your sticker

here are some methods you can try.

But you still have to put an air pump and your stock cat back on your car. It's a bit easier to put an electric air pump in than the stock air pump. Try get a vette air pump. A lot of single turbo people try that and work well.

there are a lot more emission related thread. Try search with the word "emission" you will find a lot of useful info. Good luck.

My friend did that alcohol thing to his old camaro.
Passed the test like it was nothing, but, right after you take the test you really should fill er up and drive it around for a while to clean out all the remaining alcohol. i forget what exactly it was called.

Wink Heres the trick

Heres the trick that I do my man. Dont go to the state inspection! Go to a private garage that does inspections, Get cool with the guy and tell him that you need the car to pass and insinuate that your going to give him a big tip if you pass. Bassically BRIEVE HIS ***!!. We've used this method many times and it usually works, and I moved from NYC to NJ and we run all our cars thru private inspection screw that state crap. It costs more almost a hundred dollars more than the free state ship but its worth it. And remember if one garage wont another will !

Just put a high-flow converter on the car. You can get one at Summit, they sell Catco that are stainless steel, get one without a air tube in 2 1/2 inch and have a shop make it so it bolts in place of your midpipe. Then when its time for inspection bolt it up and go pass emissions.

I used to have to pay to get my car passed every year, I had one of those put on my car and now it passes with flying colors and honestly the car is more enjoyable without all those stinky *** fumes and I see no difference in performance.

Ok so it sounds like i need to install a airpump in addition to a cat. Luckily i have a parts car sitting at my house, its an 88 gxl its in perfect running order just needs a bunch of pannels. So can i use a N/A airpump?
It looks the same and it looks like itll bolt right on. I looked at the ACV and that looks diffrent but it dont matter i dont think i need anyhow.
My only other concern is ive noticed that my car is not idiling or idles but very rarely
Usually it stays at 1500 rpm and when i first start her up shes at 2k and somtimes sdimply stays there. Guys any clue if this will also effect my emissions?
Thanks for all the help

If your car wont hold a idle it wont pass inspection. It will come up out of range.
These are things people should consider when they start removing everything on the car to gain 10 hp and to lose a smooth running car that is legal.
