What is the big hose from the airbox to back of engine??

Like the subject says...
There are two hoses that go into the air intake pipe (in front of the elbow, between the AFM and the TB)
I know one is from the BAC, but what is the other, larger one that goes into the back of the engine- right below the intake manifold at the top of the rear housing????

Also- I'd like to get rid of everything I can with regards to emmisions. I don't have to pass anymore since I have an engine from a different year car under the hood (well, ony a few parts, but it's good enough to be considered a "hot rod" by DriveClean Ontario!! Woohoo!)

Anyways, can I just ditch the entire vacuum rack/ all the solonoids and just leave the vital lines? (which would be.....?)
I serisously have never really touched the emmisions system.... don't know whats what!
Thanks

That goes to the Accelerated Warm-up System (AWS) solenoid valve.

Not everything on the rack is emissions related. The fuel pressure control solenoid is part of the Hot-Start Assist system. Some say you don't need it; I think it's a good idea. You don't need the 6PI solenoid obviously, but I think you should be actuating the VDI via it's solenoid instead of straight off the manifold pressure. This would have it open at the correct time.

Check out the FSM, all the info you need is in there.

I wonder how the VDI would feel when it opens up with boost?

My take on things that should be left when all done.....
Fuel lines (obviously)
Vacuum lines to- oil injectors
- Injector bleeds
- Fuel Pressure reulator
- My own PCV system (custom, secret...)
- Brake booster
I'll keep only my VDI solenoid
I'm keeping the charcoal canister

That should be about it?

That BIG hose goes to the AWS solenoid valve? How does that work when it goes into the rear housing?
I don't have a place on the intake to plug it into now (new intake pipe as of today...) so can I just block it off??

Sounds good.

Into the rear housing? I checked the FSM and it only shows two hoses attached to the intake pipe; the BAC and ASW valves. The AWS solenoid is in the area you described.
...can I just block it off??
I'd figure out what it is first.

That's why I'm confused. ALso, it is a hose that is 3/4" too- it's large! Definately NOT coolant either.
I'll keep looking....

Wow... I definately need to stop doing crack.
The hose goes to the big hard vacuum line that's under the manifold... part of the vacuum spider. I hadn't looked for a long time... and I seem to remember it going into the rear housing for some reason.

My question is now... The hose is just sitting there, open, not attached to the intake pipe.... can I just leave it like that or do I have to sealk it up? (I havn't started the car yet...)

put one of those little tiny cone filters wherever it leads and call it a day it was just pulling filtered air from the intake anyway right? should be no harm in it having it's own tiny filter

the airbox line is probably your air pump hose that feeds the main cat a stream of fresh air....
