not to mention the wrx's have boost cut at 110 mph. once you get reflashed ecu, its all over. like i said, you have to thrash that thing at the launch to get it to launch correctly, but then you gotta worry about your tranny twisting up like a twizlers stick.

Stock boost level WRXs can turn 1.5sec 60' times all day long on street tires.

And you don't have to thrash a non-awd car? WRX will outlaunch a rwd rx7 stock v. stock all day long.

I own both an AWD car (1991 DSM) and a few FC's and FB's.

in my modded 10AE I've beaten, from a stop, A modded WRX, stock STI, modded TSI AWD, and modded VR4.
I raced a stealh RT and beat it as well but I am not sure if it was AWD or not.

in all of those races the only one I managed to "outlaunch" is the STI, I think he didn't have a good launch, because I've seen an STI smoke all 4 tires.

my (close to stock) DSM will outlaunch pretty much anything RWD off the line
and launching it is easy!
bounce it off the rev limiter for 5 seconds or so to build boost, then drop the clutch! SHIFT instantly because you're going 50km/h (redline in 1st) the second you do.

Isnt a stock rx-7 like a 2.7 or something 60ft?compared to the 1.5-1.8 60 ft of a typical awd car.

Well figure an STi runs a 13 flat out of the box, throw in some mods and i'd be doubting a TII could keep up with intake/exhaust/rtek/mbc

well.. considering I've owned 4 rx7's and 3 subarus... I know a thing or two about both... more so about subies... my previouse suby was a gc8 2000 2dr 2.5rs turboed (no you can't buy them that way stock) with 290 hp. launching is actually a pain in the ***... unless you hate your drivetrain... then it's simple... theres 2 methods that I've used 1 hits a 1.8 60 ft time the other snatched a 1.6 60 ft time.... method one) rev to about 5500 rpms then launch.. but give it half a feather and side step.. if done right you get a 1.8~1.7 60 footer... do it wrong and you either a)bog or b)launch even faster, but stress the **** out of the tranny. method 2) hold revs at about 6500 brace neck sidestep... all wheels will either roast or pull the front wheels off the ground about an inch and launch your ***** into your throat... and hopefully not blow up first gear.... (friend has blown 3 trannys with his 510hp gc8)
next problem with fast subies.... 2nd gear hard shift = new tranny.
next problem... top end sucks ****.... I've out launched many many cars.. actually only an sti out launched me once... but I've had a 600hp 300zx fly by me at about 120mph, I had a fd fly by me.... I even had a ******* nova fly by me after I stomped him about 4 cars off the line.
I've never seen a street driven rx7 (1st 2nd or 3rd gen) out launch a sti or evo or turboed gc8... i've seen them get passed by them though. if the awd driver is good no way it would happen...

well ok the sti was probably stock, it was a close race.... yes they do launch crazy fast, i got him by the end of the 1/4 tho
and ive seen alot of them run at the track and i have never seen a stock one hit a 13 flat ever.

maybe with some pro driver and some amazing tempature and conditions 13 might be posible .....( prolly blow the drive train in two runs)
but most of the semi decent drivers ive seen hit 13.5 if they are lucky!

i have an 87 t2 with a s5 motor( stock port) swaped in running 13 psi on stock turbo , with rtek and boost controllor, full exhaust and intake.
with 13 psi on an s5 motor hitting a mid 13 is easy.

Subaru transmissions suck, and their owners know that, so not many of them launch them hard.
The SUbaru power band usually rolls over on top, because of the lack of more aggressive cams, so that is why you loose on the topend.
Evos on the other hand are a different game. I have done your 2nd technique and pulled many 1.6 60ft on evos. Drop the clutch at 7000
1G eclipses also can launch really hard, especially on the 2step with an AEM EMS. Been there, done that
I really do not think a street RX7, and generation, can outlaunch an AWD Mitsubishi or Subaru if driven properly.

I've ran multiple low 13.1's with a bone stock STi, it doesn't require a whole lot of skill to do so. The tranny's do suck, but they sure don't blow out just running low 13's. Though, I would wager that the DSM driveline sucks more....

I was actuallyt he one racing his car against the STi, we were pulling on it slightly through all gears. we did 2nd to 4th gear freeway pulls. the guys was a little agitated that he'd get a jump then we'd catch and pass him. then on the 3rd pull i blew up his engine =\
