What is this?

What is this silver cylander with the slash in it? The hole looks like it is not ment to be there, is it ok or should I replace it? Its located right under the oil filter.

The other picture is from a clutch kit I ordered. I know this is a pilot bearing but it definitely won't fit in the eccentric shaft :P. I have a 88 10th AE TII. I was wondering if this pilot bearing was for the NA? If I am correct the pilot bearing goes inside the eccentric shaft? (Also, the pilot bearing, how important is it that I replace it? Cause I went ahead and kept mine...157k miles but clutch never gave me a problem..)

Last question :P, I am doing Emissions removal and I was wondering what the nipple that is coming out end housing closest to the firewall is for.

Thanks a mil guys! You always help me out :P.

Not exactly sure what that is but I'll probably be going to work on my 86 NA in a little and if it has anything similar I'll let you know.

As far as the pilot bearing goes, it shouldnt hurt anything but its really best to replace it when doing a clutch job. If it goes bad in the future you'll most likely get alot of irritating noises out of it and end up bringing the trans down and replacing it anyway.

IIRC, and we're also refering to the same nipple, then the one you're talking about is for activating the 5th and 6th ports on the motor. A vac hose runs from that nipple to a nipple on the stock cat.

where did u find this "silver cylinder"? could u be a little more specific

the bearing from u clutch kit, is most likely ur clutch realese bearing...which helps the pressure plate and clutch engage/disengage from the motor... changing it is always nice... it'll be on the transmission side not the engine side tho...

as for the nipple.. u really should download teh FSM or buy the haynes... it's an invaluable source of info.... or post a pic of it, cuz i'm not sure which area u mean

The only thing I can help with is the pilot bearing. The last kit I bought had the sme bearing, went back to O'Reillys and told them it was the wrong one, they said it was right.

I had them look up the RX7 pilot and pull it from stock. That was was the right one. Told the kid that is the one I need, he quoted my a price for the bearing and I said no it should have come with the kit. He tells me the kit has the right bearing and can't help me.

Needless to say there are 4 other major auto suppliers in town I will now be visiting.

The silver thing is the oil pressure sending unit, its usually brass in appearance. It shouldnt have any holes in it, but a dent or 2 won't hurt. IT controls your oil pressure gauge.

I've seen that big bearing in a few clutch kits too, and I have no forking clue what it's supposed to be for. It's just something random thrown in there. IT is nowhere near the correct pilot bearing.

Thanks a lot guys. For the Oil pressure sending unit, that hole, what type of affect would it have on perfomance. Could I just JB Wield the hole, or would I need to replace it? Money is kinda tight right now, but if it has to be replace, then it will be.

Thanks! :P

IF it leaks, replace it with another used unit. If it doesnt leak, leave it alone. There is no oil in that section, only electronics, so it shouldnt leak. The oil flow terminates at the end of the "stem".

Ok thanks. So if I had good oil pressure readings before like that it should be ok. But say if it did leak, what would happen to performance? Or would the oil pressure still be fine but it would just read wrong?

(Also, I had soaked it in cleaner with the housing when I pulled it apart, so probably needs to be replaced regardless because of the combination of the hole and me soaking the electronics in simple green lol.)

Thanks again!

I dont know what you mean by performance. Any leak that leads to a pressurized passage (such as that one) would be vital, as it'd be spewing oil out at up to 80psi. Either it leaks a lot, or none at all. I dont know what else to tell you.
