I went to the drag strip on friday night and the first run I was lauching at about 4300 rpms. I let the clutch out faster than I wanted and had mad wheel hop. There was so much vibration in the car that my idiot light surround broke into three parts and came flying at me. The next run I noticed a little knock when engaging and disengaging the clutch. After the third run I stopped because I was affraid that I wouldn't make it the 30 miles back to my house. My times kept getting slower to. I thought it was the differential mount and when I checked it out the next mourning, sure enough, it was broke almost completly off. Now I have to buy and new mount and fix it so I'm out of a car for about 3 days.
that sucks man sorry to hear about your loss, could have been worse though. good luck with the diff mount swap, i did it with a friend on his car and it was FUN <--(sarcasm), my advice is to spray all the bolts with wd-40 or a type of rust eater that will loosen the bolts a day before you swap them out, that way you wont have as much trouble getting the 3 i think bolts out. good luck man better luck next time

I got some really good rust eater that they don't make anymore and it works miracles. Can't remember the name, but when I had to take of my main cat, one drop of this stuff made that bolts be able to move again and those bolts had probably never been loosened since the factory put them on.
I did the same exact thing.
Broke it launching.
Be careful driving on it. It can mess with driveline stuff. I can't remember what exactly. I think its U-joints.
I recommend the Mazdatrix Racing Diff mount.
I installed it myself too.
As long as you have a free day and some jacks and stands you can do it yourself.
Just drop the subframe 6 inches at the least and it's not very hard just takes a while.

Install a pinion snubber when you swap the diff mount out and you'll stop breaking diff mounts.

http://www.mazdaformance.com/rx7.htm under mazdaspeed motor sports has the same differential mount as mazdatrix for less. So I'm probably going to get it from them.

Any performance shop should carry them. Try Pep Boys - they'll probably have them behind the counter.
As for making a solid snubber, I'd encourage you to not do that. If you do, you'll probably continue to get thumping each time you apply force to the drivetrain as the diff hits the metal snubber. Annoying.

I went to the track friday too, now i need new u joints(pretty sure as they squeek, and the car vibrates bad) and i think i have a broken diff. mount, because when i let off the gas i hear a loud clunk, same with getting back on the gas, where do i look to see if a mount is broke
