well you guys talked me into porting my wastegate, questions?
Well I'm finally doing it! I thought I would never pull the turbo off again after the third time but today was the fourth, grrrr. Anyways I tend to listen to you guys when yall hound a point long enough and porting the wastegate is the one yall hound the most so I'm going for it however I have a couple questions.
1. some guys used a dremel however I have a rotor tool that turns alot more rpm then a dremel, what bit would yall use????
2. I suck at welding so could I get a place to weld the new flapper on??? Also nz if you are out there do you know exactly what size washer you used???
3. How did yall stuff a rag up there? did yall stick it through the tiny hole or did yall put in through the exhaust port???
Thanks!

I used a carbide bit, then placed a rag and taped it securely.
Then draw how far you can port ( i maxed out the stock flapper and didnt weld a valve on )
Then ported away. then vaccum everything.
And was ready

Why not just take it to a machine shop and have them make it as big as it can go and put a new flapper on. You can only go so far until you hit that wall and it becomes much harder to port.

I R SAD PANDA W/O BAW
I have some pix of an s4 BNR stage 3 with a ported wg.
It is machined up to 35mm.
I ported my s5 wg with a makita electric drill and aluminum oxide polishing stones and they worked ok. I got them at home depot. The only thing I couldnt do is port deep enough with them since the collet was too short.
If you have a small die grinder and a carbide bit it'll save you tons of time.
Also I didnt put any rags anywhere when I ported the wg. After porting I just went to the gas station and use their compress air and blew out all the shavings. Drove like that for several months until I blew a coolant seal so it was fine.

If you've read my wastegate porting thread then you know what I'd recommend you do. A general engineering shop whould probably be able to do both the machining and welding, or you could just look for "Welding" in the Yellow Pages.
Personally I'd never do it without removing the exhaust housing. It's not exactly difficult. You'll have to do it if you want to get it machined anyway.

thats what I figured nz. I don't have a turbo shop around here anywhere so I guess a machine shop might do the trick. Thanks ricer for the pics that is a freakin huge port job! I guess I will have to take the hotside of and bring it to a machine shop. I hapen to do computer work for a machine shop here localy so I might bring it there and see what they can do.
