Talking Well look what the cat dragged in! Yes, it's my first...

Holy crap! Today, finally received my 88 Black on gray Turbo ii with no motor. I am in the process of getting my hands on a motor, but for now, it looks simply marvelous. It has it's dings and scratches, needs a new hood, but by God, it's mine. All freaking mine. Now that I have it, I simply CAN NOT WAIT to get it running. Now for the question, should I: HAve a shop put the new motor in for convenience and for safety sake (Im not 100% sure what Im doing), or should I just put it in my self, for costs sake? Also, how much would a shop probably charge to get it dropped in? Thanks tons. I'll have pics when I get 'er all shined and runnin. This is, quite literally, a dream come true. I absolutely LOVE rx7's. FD's mainly, but to have a turbo FC sitting in my garage, I can barely believe it. I stood there for so long just staring at it and laughing, Im sure all of you know the feeling Well, wish me luck, and If any of you would like to assist me in getting a jspec (i've emailed nippon, japan direct, and fc3s, and NONE have any in stock. I am ready to buy ASAP, I have the money, just grrr). Anyways, thanks, I've been here a while, but I finally got my baby.

i know that feeling... when i got mine i couldn't wait to get it on the road. not because it wasn't running, but because it needed to pass emissions. but i was just like you, staring and drooling.

it depends on where you bring it.. i know that some places will charge up to a grand and a half for a motor swap, but im not sure about just installing one. all i know is, if you bring it to someone, make sure they know what the hell they are doing. Alot of mechanics really have no clue about rotarys, and little to no experience. your best bet would be to bring it to someone specializing in mazda. As for motors, There are plenty of places online that have rx7 motors. www.mazdarx7engines.com, Www.mazdaracing.com, and even try looking on ebay, There are alot of people who sell JDM engines on there for a grand or less, imported directly from japan. Last time i checked, there was a jdm turbo 13b for like $1000. and i think there was also a twin turbo FD engine.

I say try and do it yourself theres always some satisfaction in doing it yourself and just think of how much better you will know your car the next time you need to fix something

slow87turbo: I live in the Kansas City Area, Independence to be exact.

FC3XGuy: I was looking for a jspec, I dont trust ebay, and none of the importers I emailed have any. If all else fails I'll probably have to TRY ebay, but ya.

00nothing:I agree, In the end I probably will, it's just rather daunting to look under the hood and see NOTHING!

Thanks for all the replies, As soon as I get this beyotch runnin, I'll let all of ya know. Im so excited.
