well, just picked up an '87 TII and..

Well, to start off, the car had been in a wreck which bent up the front driver's side fender, and messed with the front end so the car is not driveable. I talked to the previous owner and he said that prior to the wreck, the car ran great, but he hasn't started it since. He said that the radiator was cracked, and the oil cooler was cracked as well, so he hasn't even bother touching it in the 4+ months that its been sitting. Well i got it yesterday and was able to put a wrench on it today not knowing what to expect really. Just out of boredom I took off the wrecked fender just because its worthless and I wanted to see how much damage if any, was actually done behind. Nothin too big, nothing that can't be fixed. I know a yard here in town that has a perfect fender that i'll likely pick up for it this week. I also had a good battery laying around that i got charged up to just throw in there for giggles to see if it would start. Sure enough..it did. On like the first try. Blew my mind. The thing however, is that when it did start it acted as though the throttle was just completely stuck open. I went to see what i could under the hood and nothing was visually making it sit at WOT. I'm not all that mechanically enclined however at the same time i'm not all together worthless, and i wasn't able to draw any conclusions as to what could be causing the problem. SO i just left it for another day and hopefully i'll be able to figure it out. Any of you more seasoned vets have any random guesses as to what may cause something like this? I realize its real hard to diagnose a problem with so many possible causes over the internet, but do any of you have an idea of what to check for first? Any help would do. Thanks guys.

Good god! that must have been interesting.

The ONLY reason I can come up with for that type of behavoir, is that something is mechanically wrong (throttle area).

Even if the TPS was all the way open, and the ecu was dumping all kinds of gas (for some unknown reason), there would have to be a BIG vacuum leak somewhere in order to light that all off.

I would check the TB again.

Either the throttle is being held open physically or by the cruise or throttle cable, or the BAC or AWS valves are stuck open.

Kevin, i plan on putting this motor into my 10ae. If it shows any signs of giving out i might be giving you a buzz...i want it to be about as sound as possible.

Yup, I have seen it before. Had a GSLSE come through once that did that, and by removing the BAC it was fixed.
