Well, It's Time....Turbo Time!

I think I'm gonna do it. I was riding in my friend's Contour today, when a Supra TT blew past us. I heard my first BOV. I hate to say, I'm gonna go Turbo. I have never driven or owned a turbo car, so I am wondering: Would it be better if I get a S4 or a S5? I am gonna fix my car, and have it as my daily driver, but that doesn't mean I want a "Project" TII. I want somethin reasonably cheap (under $5k) that runs decently, and is close to stock. I plan on getting it by the end of August. Sould a first time turbo-er go for an S4 or a S5...or does it really matter?

Series 5. Better wastegate and therefore less prone to boost-creep. But, the car is heavier than the S4. Also harder to find.

I think I want to stick to S4. Black on Black would rock. How much would a near stock S4 go for? And how long will that engine last? Like, if I find one w/o a rebuilt/replaced engine, what is the maximum mileage I want to look for?? I know VERY little about TIIs, so help a brotha out!!

Cost could be anywhere, but standard seems to be between $2500 and $4000...Engine life depends on a LOT of things, so it is impossible to judge. Average TII engine life seems around 120K, so keep that in mind.

for an s4 t2 stock? i wouldn't pay more than 2.5k for it especially if it still has the original engine...and if it does, better check the compression...if that's still decent, atf it and start saving for a new engine...cause you never know when it will go kaboom!!!
oh...and about the mileage? never judge a car by it's mileage...only by how well it's been taken care of...

When I was looking for my TII, I found a '90 TII, black on black, with a new engine (Dealer installed with reciept) and a mint body for $5300...you just have to be patient.

Would it better to just pick up a cheap (under $1500) S5 TII with bad motor and stick in a $3000 rebuilt, beefed up motor. I just feel uneasy forking out $3500 for a stocker(unless it came with a haltech, front mount, etc) and then another $3000 for rebuilt when it does finally blow up.

Well, I really want as close to stock so I can be sure the mods are done right, are done at the right times, and done in the right sequence. I want an S4 because I own a S5 n/a, and I want a little different feel when I drive my other car. I will more than likely swap out the Zenki turbo for the Kouki turbo, waswtegate, aftermarket BOV and FCD to start. And of course....Kouki round tail lights.

You're still going to be slower than me mr.rico, and btw, my car fired today when I turned it over, only a matter of days before she's screaming out of the RB downpipe

YES!!!!!!!!!!! You on IM? Anyway, after a SP upgraded turbo in the future, we'll see who's is faster!! I plan on leaving my N/A alone as my daily driver, and my TII as the beast.
