well...i think she finally died on me

i was out of it earlier...and i accidentally posted this in the "Other Rotary" forum

well...i think she finally died on me
I went today to get my FC inspected...the guy told me that i would need a new muffler before he could do the inspection, because mine had a hole in it and he wasnt getting enough pressure out of the pipe to test it.
So i took a trip down to the local muffler shop so that they could check out my leaks and give me a price on fixing everything. $45 if i wanted to just replace the muffler, $150 if i wanted to replace all of the piping from the manifold back using my own cats. He said it would be a 2.5-3 hr wait because they were really busy, so i just told him i would come back tomorrow.
On the drive home, the thermostat started going up, slowly at first. I had just checked the coolant the day before, so i wasnt really that worried....i just blamed it on the weather. When i got about 5 miles from my house the temp was still going up, so i pulled into a Walgreens to check all my fluids. Coolant was good, Oil was good, everything seemed fine....so i went into the store for awhile to let the engine cool down before i drove it home. After about 30 min i came back out to my car and it wouldnt start. It had gas, coolant, oil, 12 volts on the battery. The starter would crank, and the engine would almost turn over...but it just wouldnt start. I tried a few tricks because at first i thought it was flooded...but that wouldnt explain why it was getting so hot.
I had to go to work, so i just left it at Walgreens and hopefully tonight i can get it running again. Im taking the compression tester with me. hopefully its just flooded.

I guess if its blown...then its time to go turbo thats about the only good thing that would come out of this

wish me luck,

-Tommy

wish you luck for which outcome? Either way it sounds good.

well...i dont know which one im leaning more towards

if its just flooded....i still have my 7

if its blown i get more power.....

although if it was flooded that would be ALOT more convenient than saving up for a new engine and installing that....the latter seems like it would be funner, for some reason i love wrenching on my car. I guess thats why im really not that upset over it....either that, or it just hasnt hit me yet

well a blown motor would overheat and not use any coolent....how did you try to unflood it? what year and model is your car?

well it was overheating, whether or not it was using coolant at the time....i have no clue.

The car is an 86 base, and it seemed to be running strong while i was driving it to the emmissions place...but when i noticed the temp going up i drove it easily, keeping it under 3k, until i eventually pulled into the parking lot....so i dont know if i lost any power before it shut off or not.

as far as unflooding, i just removed the EGI fuse, and cranked the engine over several times with the pedal to the floor....havent resorted to ATF yet due to the fact that i had to come to work

i think i blew a front apex seal...and the rear rotor has bad compression..but i dont think its gone yet.

it started saturday night, and i drove it home...but the compression test read:

Front: 60-90-90
Rear: 60-90-90

while i was testing the rear rotor, ALOT of smoke was blowing out the hole for the front rotors leading spark plug there she went......

now i just need to get a second job.....
