I need help, I'm fed up with my car!

From the day I got my car I have had nothing but HORRIBLE luck with it. First day i got it, the radiator blew. Couple months later I got my new c-west kit installed and then a week after that I was ran into while still in my parking space! Took 2 months to get the car back on the road. Next month, the motor blew. Now i just got the car back after it being down for 2 more months and it keeps dieing on me and yesterday I discovered a noise coming from my turbos (brand new with only 600miles on them) that sounds like crickets in there!! WTF!! To top it off I need new carpet, all the bolts to hold on my front and rear bumpers, new brake ducts, and some small interior pieces. Oh yeah, my tailights have gone out 3 times and now don't work at all. I am SO CLOSE to selling it, but I can't bring myself to do it. GIve me hope guys!!

PS: Sorry for the spelling it was a furious typing session

Disgruntled,
Danny

fix it before you sell it, otherwise you'll take yet another loss

by the way, welcome to the rx7 world! my advise is not to buy body kits but to get the car running right

I feel ya man. I've had the car for 5 months, I drove it for 2, then there was a three month motor blown extavaganza (turned into a motor, turbos, and a clutch, among other things). I have every common FD problem known to man. Suspension clunk, passenger grab handle, tach is screwed, my glove box light is always on, my rear hatch rattles. You name it, I got it.

But hang in there. You'll pull through. I'm working on it, little by little. I spent in excess of 5 hours with my tach today, trying to figure out that ******* thing, with no luck. I think it works less now than it used to. AHHHHHH!

Take a breather. Grabd a snack and something to drink. Search this forum over and over looking for all answers currently to teh problems you are associating with. Print it all out and go out to your car and do it over again. Trust me you won't forgive yourself for selling it. Before any modding or anything at all. Make sure it's running top notch first.

hey cetchup,
where in cali are you located? Im down in Irvine and maybe you can swing by sometime and I could check out your car. My car has given me its share of problems too(blown motor, yadda yadda). Who rebuilt your motor btw? I'm no expert, but I could give you advice if you are experiencing problems I have encountered. Well best of luck to you.

i feel your pain man. I'm taking such a big loss on my RX7 now. Also, the market now for selling rx7s is horrible. 2001-2002 was good, but this year is simply horrible.

What sucks is that the problems you describe aren't easy to diagnose nor would they be cheap to fix.

SAME THING HERE. JUST PUT MY CAR UP YESTERDAY. I HATE TO DO IT, BUT IT IS MY PRIMARY CAR. HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE ONLY THING I DID GET RESOLVED WAS THE PASSENGER HANDLE. I'VE GOT ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS. CLUNK, CRAPPY IDLE TO PEELING CONSOLE PAINT.
SAD THING, I'VE WANTED THE CAR SINCE 93 AND JUST BOUGHT ONE. THE CAR I'VE WANTED MOST IS THE ONE I WILL HAVE THE SHORTEST. JUST BECOMING MORE OF A HEADACHE THAN WANT IT IS WORTH. THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS WHEN I'M OUTSIDE THE CAR. INSIDE I'M WONDERING WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING SELLING IT.
NO LOCAL SHOPS TO WORK ON OR LOCAL SUPPORT. THIS FORUM HAS BEEN EXCELLENT HELP. I JUST CAN'T AFFORD TO PUT IT UP FOR A TIME. MAYBE JUST WASN'T READY FOR IT YET.

Hey

Whats with all the people selling there 7's. I have something to say about that.

When the car originally came out in 93 it was not a economy car. With a price tag near 40K it was not ment to be a daily driver. It was for the few who could afford a real sports car. For example. How many people buy Vipers or even Vettes just to drive them to work everyday. Not to many. Well thats what it seems like a lot of you are doing. These cars are at or near 10 years old now. Most of them with over 70K miles. What are you to expect from an engine that has a displacment of 1.3 liters and is good for 250 HP from the show floor. Lets see how long a conventional 1.3 last at 250 HP+

First thing I tell people to do when they want a 3rd gen is get a daily driver before you buy it. Then get your rx-7 and take the loan out with an additional $1500 to get a hose job an coolant upgrades compression check (with a rotary compression tester) and anything else fixed that will cause problems in the near future.

Now just because you have done all the above doesn't mean you are in the clear. You still may experience problems. Be patient and do some research. Fix it the right way. If you are not sure of your fix of of your skill have someone else do it.

And just a closing statement. Just because you have rebuilt turbos doesn't mean that they are anygood. Did the place that rebuitl them accomplish high speed balancing? Even still they are not going to be as good or better than new like some think. The stockers will never be able to hold more than 14psi without blowing smoke and going bad. They were designed for 10psi and thats it. You are looking for more go with a single or ball bearing. With that said. Good luck and keep the paint side up.

I totally feel your pain. I've had my car three years, and am close to paying it off. For the three years, it's run right for about 5 months. I'm on my third motor, and i've broken evrything on the car(some things twice). I have cursed it, and called it a POS more times than I can remember. I've since rededicated myself to do it one more time, the right way.
You don't have support around you, and that's huge, as you've got noone directly accessable to look at the car, and give you honest advice. It sucks, and it's been my problem as well. You absolutely have to find someone qualified to work on it. That's the first step in counteracting your luck. Even if it means a 3-4 hour drive...do it. You won't be sorry.
My advice to you is to by another POS(just kidding ), to drive every day. My life got incredibly simpler after I bought another car. I don't hate, and/or resent the car anymore. That's huge.
All I can say is what a difference a day makes. By another car, take the pressure off, and make your decision without the pressure of dealing with the 7's problems everyday. Your decision will then become much easier.
If you do sell it, absolutely fix it before you sell it(as said before).
If you keep it, do reliability mods first. You will have a baddass car in time, but you have to take care of some things first. The 7 is an extreme exercise in patience. Trust me, I know, because I have none.
Do your best not to forget how utterly devestating the car is when it runs right. It truly is one of the most unbelievable cars ever made. With all it gives, it definitely takes some things in return. It's a real life Christine(Steven King).
Good luck man.
Jim

I'd loosen up your door panel and tighten down those screws. That is how the door handle breaks, there are two screws in the bottom of it, and another at the top that attaches to the door. Over time they loosen up a bit and then eventually the connections on the handle break. My door handle was already broken when I bought my car, it took me quite a few hours to repair it with JB Weld and plumbers tape (thanks DamonB!).

This is not a car for those short on patience, small in attention span, and shallow in pocket depth. Sure, there are your buddies with Camaros and Mustangs and they never have the problems you have .... yeah, yeah. So what. You didn't buy the car so you could boast about how you never have problems with it and how cheap it is to fix. And if any of you are having a dilemma about that, well I'm sorry ... you bought the wrong damn car.

Yes, it's frustrating. And yes, the expenses are painful. But that's part of the game. If you don't like the rules, you don't have to play. And if this sounds harsh .. well, wah, get over it. Bite the bullet and get whatever you need done right. If you can't do that, then walk away and concede that maybe, just maybe, you got in over your head.

Ok, rant off.

We hear a lot of members talking about problems with their cars. Unfortunately, we don't hear much from the people who's cars aren't giving them trouble. I think most of us don't have many problems with our cars. Most of our cars wouldn't need much more attention than the average car if we would leave them stock......but not many of us do that!!

hey ketchup...

Listen man...I wanna sit here and tell you the -7- is all wonderful and has no downsides but I cant. So these things are gonna happen. Its opposit of every japanese car of its era, instead of bieng slow and reliable its fast and problematic.

I would 95 pct say the problem with your turbos can be fixed in 30 seconds or less. Ihad the same problem, mine was when I went over 4500 RPM, but none the less it is likely a leak in your piping. I cant say where the leak is or if your piping is torn or just loose. Mine was loose where the lower IC PIP thingy connects to that other thingy that connects to the Y Pipe thingy. You know...the thingy under the Strutt tower brace thingy? Anyway pull up on it and see if it moves. Im tellin' ya its an air leak. Welcome to the club
