Well, damn...
Perhaps I should've read my tech book before buying the part, but here goes.
My 86 Rx7 has been sitting for the past ten years after my father parked it. A year ago, when we finally pulled it out of the shell of the garage, I pushed in the clutch and felt something snap. After that, the clutch pedal stopped returning to it's upright position.
So after replacing the Clutch Master Cylinder, still no go. So after looking in the tech book, it says something about the fork lever in the transmission needs to be replaced.
As I said, the car isn't going anywhere, and I have the time to work on it myself. Is this something that I can do myself? I'd call myself an amateur mechanic, but nothing crazy.
Any ideas?

Maybe this is a noobish question, but how do I tell if it's the slave cylinder? Still have to bleed the lines too, but haven't had time to get the car up... damn new england winters...

Wellllll... Bled the lines today, and the pedal no longer goes straight to the floor. Unfortunately it really doesn't go anywhere now... *Sigh* I'd have to assume, or at least hope... err pray... that it's the slave cylinder. Gonna order it along with a new hose soon...
By the way, I realized after the fact that the master cylinder I installed didn't come with a gasket... Is that something I should worry about?

Could've popped a seal in your slave cyl.... its the one that sits atop the bell housing with a hydraulic line going to it. Check to see if it moves when you push the clutch pedal... also check for leaking fluid on the bell housing AND at the clutch master cyl.

If you heard an audible snap, I doubt its the salve cylider... just get under the car and feel for slack on the fork. Or remove the slave cylinder and check it... put it back on and bleed the system, if still no go, then replace the fork, which will require dropping the tranny, but that in itself isnt too hard

Does it? You said when you push the clutch "it doesn't really go anywhere". Is that referring to the slave cylinder?
If the slave cylinder moves, than it's a problem in your tranny. If the slave cylinder doesn't move, it's a problem outside the tranny in the hydraulics.

Yaaay
Well, I replaced the slave cyl and hose (after many slipped wrenches and minor cuts and bruises) and after bleeding the lines the pedal returns to the beginning position on its own. Although, one thing worries me a little bit; the pedal still feels a little spongy and weak. I was expecting a stiffer feel to the pedal. Maybe there's still a little air in the lines, or the slave cyl isn't bolted on tight enough... seems to be a little movement of the slave cylinder.
But otherwise, I'm happy!
Cept for the fact that the brake pedal still goes straight to the floor :-/
