Unhappy weird vibration 3k rpm in first gear when excelerating

so i went on like a 30 minute drive, i did a few spirited sprints on the freeway with a friend(nothing special, just thought I'd mention it. maybe it caused this?) and when i got off the freeway, i noticed when i was taking off from stops(at normal speeds) the car would vibrate a little around 2800 rpm until about 3300 rpm.. just a quick little rattle.. it wasn't violent at all, but definitely noticeable.

so i thought maybe if i drove a little faster it wouldn't do it.. i tried taking off pretty fast and at around the same rpm's, there went that ****** rattle again, only this time it was shorter and a little more violent due to the increased speed.

it doesn't do it in any other gears..

first thing i thought was motor mounts, but i kinda don't think that's it.. what the ****?

Perhaps the clutch fan? Take it off, and go driving. As long as you don't idle too long, you should be OK to test it out and not over heat. When you're moving it's free wheeling and not doing anything anyway.

that's a thought!!

i doubt it though, i could sware the clutch fan is working properly.. i hear it sometimes upon first drive out of the driveway, or when temps get hot.

i will try that though.. thanks!

Don't go too nuts if it's only happening in 1st gear.
My car started getting a weird vibration at such-n-such RPM and me being a pessimist, I made a mountain of a mole hill. I thought it was the fan. I thought it was the engine mount. I thought it was the drive shaft. I thought the clutch fell off. I thought the flywheel loosened. I thought a seal broke off. Turns out there was a loose nut behind the wheel. Old car is old. It shakes a bit.

Over the years my brain/ears have developed a tremendous bullshit filtering device and now I just say "meh" when something happens.

Good luck.

well it's not just the steering wheel that shakes, the dash kinda shakes a bit as well.

alright, so today i took the car out for a drive, and it wasn't doing it anymore..

my car does seem to have moods though. everyday is different, some days i drive around town backfiring, and poppin the whole time. some days my "seatbelts" warning light(always on because i have s4 seatbelts in my s5) some days the car runs perfectly fine(maybe once a week) and the very next drive it'll idle like ****, again backfire and pop all around town.. i have pretty much come to the conclusion, that the vibrating thing is simply another thing she's going to do to remind me that having an rx7 and no job is a terrible idea..

(just thought i'd add that the motor is fine, it was rebuilt about 30k ago)
