weird tps "noise"

I was playing around with this today, trying to see if I could fix my idle. All I was doing was just seeing how it worked, I need to understand it before I can fix it.

Anyways, on the throttle linkage there is a little peg that pushes the tps in when the throttle is at 0. Well I was playing around with it and just pushing in the little button all the way at idle, and it increased in idle.
When I left it alone, the throttle went down, and finally when the engine was at the middle of the temp gauge (operating tempurature) it was ideling at like 800rpm. There was still surging tho, but it was minimal.

ANYWAYS, to the point
When pushing it in and letting the button go for the tps I could hear a very distinct 'click' from inside the throttle body. Like a switch activating something in there. If I just let the engine sit, this ticking would go on and off sporadically, sometimes it would be 'tick, tick tick' and then stop, other times it would just tick once, etc without me touching the throttle.
Is this a sign that the tps is malfunctioning? It makes the same noise when I push it, but if its making that noise also when nothing is happening, then it must be fucked up?

I think I should replace it. I cannot fathom WHY the tps costs 150$, what a ******* rip off. I have a feeling that the tps is NO DIFFERENT than those electric track car switches that you hold in your hand. You press it in, the circuit is closed with the least amount of resistance, allowing the car to go full speed. You depress it the controll with your hand, it gives off the most resistance, allowing the track car to run slower....

Maybe if I took it apart I could clean it?

thx for your help.

The "ticking" you're hearing might be the BAC valve. The TPS is nothing more than a variable potentiometer, like the race car thingy you were talking about. After the wiper runs across the pot millions of times, they will wear out, and one or more "dead spots" will develop before it's totally useless...Used ones are far cheaper, but it's an "unknown" part as far as mileage and use goes, but they can be checked for serviceability fairly easily...

Interesting, cause I just cleaned my BAC valve today! I guess thats what was doing the ticking.

Is it ok to take apart the BAC and clean it more? I just dumped it with carb cleaner and tried to move the valve around from the inside, but i want to take it apart and clean it bigtime. Theres a torx nut on the end of it where the wires come out, just gotta loosen it and I can dissasmble it.

After I cleaned it , it made a pretty big difference, I could put it in gear, turn the heat on, etc without very minor fluctuations, instead of before where it was very noticable.
I'll do the tps ohm thing tomorrow, thx for your time wayne.

Doesn't sound like you need to clean it again...The TPS can be checked several ways, I like to do it at the ECU, other guys like to just perform the ohm checks at the TPS, or do the voltage check at the TPS plug. Do a search, we must have 1000 writeups on that sucker...Also this, if you decide to check it at the ECU...
