Weird starting problem

When I went to start my car today, there was like a huge power surge or something. Then the car didn't start. I went to start it again and it started up fine. Any idea what happened the first time?

It just like seemed like the ignition system was wrokign fine, but it wasn't going to the plugs to turn the engine over. So it just sounded like this huge amount of electricity going nowhere. I checked the plug wires and plugs and everythings fine. It didn't do it again but it just freaked me out and I wanna know what it was.
