weird problem with t2

Well i just got back from a long deployment, and tried to fire up the rex, well needed jumping but i was gone for 6 months, anyways I finally get her started but now there is a steady beeping, and the powersteering is really heavy, i drove it around for a bit and it got better steering and the beap stoped, but then the car died, got jumped again and drove it around for like 30 mins, thought that was odd, but anyways i shut it down and rand restart.. and yup you guessed it.. hard steering and the beep is back. I was wondering is this mean my alt is going back?.. or some other mysterious problem?.. thanks for any help.. Mark 1988 T2

Sounds like you need some power steering fluid. That should take care of the beeping and the heavy steering. As for the charging prolbem, it sounds like you need a new battery.

Is the beeping coming from the idiot lights or is it a faint beep thats coming from under the dash? I beleive there is a beeper for low power steering fluid.

The power steering computer will beep if there is a fault in the system. IE) Low fluid

Sounds like the low oil or coolant alarm to me. On my S5 turbo I'll get the loud beep from the cluster if i turn the key to 'on' when there's no oil in the pan. (Did this during an oil change to lower the window and scared myself pretty good!).
