Weird "Afterburning" Problem

I get this weird noise when I push on the accelerator a small tad, and also the same sound when I let go on the accelerator a tad from the end (in the same position).

It sounds like it's comming from the exhaust. I'm not sure if it's really "afterburning", but it's a deep throuty sound. It's really starting to kill me.

What could be causing this?

Burnt-through muffler?

I'm pretty sure that I've burned through the cat and the muffler on my Accord, and I get that same type of deep throaty sound around 2-3k rpm when I let off the throttle. That, and there's a different, but still deep sound when put the pedal to the floor.

Check your muffler.

Yeah, I get the same thing at high speed. I let off the throttle and it sounds like a diesel truck decellerating.

This happens at any speed.

I touch the accelerator a little bit, I hear the noise, and if I keep pressing down, it will go away. Same when I let go of the peddle. The exact same spot.

I'm thinking it's at the point where the engine isn't pushing the car or something, I don't know.

I'm thinking exaust leak right now, a couple major ones.

I think I know what youre talking about but Im not sure...

I asked Jacob Cartmill what the noise was and he said that at very light throttle, the car runs on only one rotor.

You think I would notice if the car only ran on one rotor?

The car seems fine, and I can beat the hell out of it like always.

If your getting backfiring sounds id say check your TPS. I left mine unplugged once and got major afterburning and popping coming from the exaust.

Just adjusted it today for the first time actually. It was way off.

Still poping when cold. This car is a nightmare but is a joy when it's running good.

I had my exhaust off a while back... a couple times I guess :P and when I put it back on I left off some of the hangers by sheer stupidity.

What happened over the next few days was fun. It started out fine, nice and quiet (as quiet as these things get) and then after a few days (read: "a few hours of drive time") it started popping, backfiring, and it sounded a little loud. Turns out the manifold nuts had loosened a tad and the pipe had just slightly opened on the top, consequently blowing the top of the gasket off and producing the effect of holes in the exhaust.

SOOOOO!!!!! Point being, before you bother checking your whole exhaust for leaks, make sure all the bolts are tight.

Blown gaskets suck.
