Weber 48 IDA pros/cons?

Really thinking about swapping in a Weber 48 IDA on my 86 GXL. Engines out and blown anyways, rebuilding right now. I wanted to go with ITBs and a standalone but I REALLY like the simplicity of the carburetor system and inexpensiveness. What are the pros and cons here?

Also as a secondary question I have a set of 6 port plates that were lapped and nitrided, with stock ports. Can I port these and not worry about renitriding or is that going to cause problems? Don't want to spend $500ish on nitriding them again if I port it.

yeah you can totally port them, if you're porting it right you're not removing any coating from a wear area, https://www.rx7club.com/rotary-car-p.../#post12436491

the IDA is really good, the only downside is really the cost. sure the carb is cheap, $499, but then you need to buy venturis and jets and stuff, plan on another $500 for that stuff. the other problem is that with EFI you can hit a key and change the tune, but the Weber you need to order a part, and its a day or two away

i'm near Pierce Manifolds, so i get next day service

From what j9fd3s says. Depending on the ECU and throttle bodies you use, cost could be a wash. A Borla 48mm TB is listed for $379.01 on their site. https://www.borlainduction.com/2900-series.html
Personally I'd rather learn to tune an ECU than mess with swapping jets.Plus EFI is proven to make more and better power than carbs.

What about Racing Beats Holley kit? with the Double Pumper? Sounds like that is all setup, ready to bolt on and go, and alleviates any low end or cold start issues that the Weber might have.

the holley will be closer out of the box than the Weber will, but once you get the Weber tuned correctly, it'll drive like the stock EFi. i'm in California, so i don't miss the choke, we don't really need it anyways
