As per the doors... that's great. The S4 doors weigh less than the S5. Of corse whichever system is in the S4 door will weigh less. There's less than 2#'s of difference.

did you all forget you can swap out your driveshaft and flywheel for lighter ones which is less rotating mass and less weight so they will make a big difference on a street racing car but for a drag car heavier flywheels and driveshafts have more momentum so they throw you off the line harder...you can swap out your exhaust for a single exit intead of dual which is lighter, if you really want to make your car lighter, the sunroof and rear hatch are quite heavy, you could just shave the sunroof and get lexan in the rear window, you could get a tiny battery which is obviously lighter then a larger battery, the bumper supports are fiberglass and weigh nothing anyway and shatter if you get into an accident, they dont do much, all the metal under the stock dash is quite heavy, you could hack that up and lose weight, if its an 89-91 with auto belts, all the **** for them, separate computer, motors, reels, **** adds up...thing is every stupid thing adds up, i just wouldnt rip my interior apart to save some weight...

The fiberglass bumpers are actually very heavy but they are also extremely important in a crash!!! It doesn't matter if they are made from fiberglass or not they are very thick and very strong. I'd hate to be in a front collision in a car that doesn't have them. My life isn't worth 40 pounds of weight savings. The same thing applies for the side impact beams. If this car has a full roll cage with racing seats, 5-point harnesses, and the driver has a helmet then that will be a different story. All the metal under the stock dash is also for safety in the case of accident. The heavy bar under the dash is actually structural when the dash is installed and designed so that the dash doesn't crumple up into the passengers. Again a true race car is a different story but sacraficing safety for weight in a street car is not a good idea. Work on lighter wheels, seats, exhaust, flywheel, remove sound deadening, no spare, and other misc. little things, but don't sacrafice safety devices. They may be heavy but they are there for a good reason. Easiest way to make the car lighter is to let a jockey or a midget drive it or go on a diet. Wear less clothes or drive naked.

The photos of the white door are from my '91 GXL that I just purchased out of South Florida. Both of them have the identical side impact beams. I was not able to get a good picture of the '91 because of the plastic liner that started to rip when I tried to move it. But the photos are clear enough.
And here is both cars in my garage.
BTW: as best I can tell from a Google search the side impact beam mandate started or was passed in 1973.

4-pot calipers are also lighter than single piston calipers.

Anyone ever try filling a tire with helium? I figued out when I was younger how to make a mountain bike lighter by having a sealed tubed with helium in the 3 main tubes of the frame. I 'm not sure about it's ability to withstand heat, or it's expansion/contraction rates comparable to heat and air's qualities, nor am I familiar withs it's flamability, but is sure sounds like a damn good Idea to me.
