waterpump problems
Well last night after driving around (not racing or speeding) I popped my hood, I don't know what compelled me to do it, and found coolant all over the place. Today, well a few minutes ago, I took off all my pulleys to see if it was leaking from the gasket on the waterpump. Unfortunately it was leaking through the weephole. I just changed the waterpump Friday afternoon.
My question is, what would make a waterpump leak through the weephole or go bad? LIke I said before, the waterpump was brand new. This would be the third time that I have changed my waterpump. First time was the original and changed it with a brand new one. That one didn't even last 2 months and now this one not even 2 days. Quite honestly this is depressing. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I have a 90 GTU if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Vance

There's a couple of items that come to mind. After installing the new/rebuild pump, don't have the belt so tight there is no play, or flex in the belt. Also check to make sure the pulley and fan assembly is true. Pulley not worn, no fan blades cracked and missing.

Are you sure its leaking from the weep hold and not from the waterpump housing gasket. Sometimes when you take out the waterpump, if you disturb the waterpump housing gasket it might leak. I usually change the waterpump housing gasket whenever i do a waterpump. If you fan clutch is mess up like alwas locked or wobbling it could cause the waterpump to wear prematurely. Use a small mirror and make sure its leaking from the weep hole before you change the water pump.

As was said, an overtight belt, unbalanced fan, or bent pully will shorten the life of a pump, but usually to a year or so, not months.
Sometimes the parts remanufacturing shops put out a bad batch. I went through a string 3 alternators once. That's what the warranty is for..

Well my waterpump is coming in on the 7th and my underdrive pulley from Mazdatrix should be in tomorrow. So hopefully the new waterpump isn't part of the bad remanufactured batch and the underdrive pulley will prolong the life.
A question about the underdrive pulley, Will I have to get shorter belts?

Did you purge the system of any air pockets when you replaced the Water Pump (WP)?
I had the same scenario last year. It looked, to me, that the weep hole was leaking but It turned out the gasket WP Housing to front cover was bad.
Too bad I bought a new WP within the process.

The weephole is the hole on the waterpump that leaks coolant when the waterpump bearings are going bad or about to sieze.
