Waterpump leaking. Video

Welp, after a nice drive home with the addcoolant light buzzing at me, I figured I better figure out whats causing the leak I've known about. Its been going on for the last month or so, I've just been adding water/coolant and it keeps the buzzer happy and not yelling at me. Last night though I was headed back home and didn't have any water or anyplace to stop. Didn't overheat and there was always heat coming from the heater. Aftermarket temp gauge didn't creep much above 200 by the time I got home.

Anyhow, got home, gave her some water. Overflow had been sucked bone dry.
. So I decided to go looking for the leak.

Check the video (2.4mb, Divx4):http://forumbinaries.rerev.com/videos/waterpumpweep.avi

I ended up removing both the water pump pulley and the main crank. Then I removed the waterpump all together.

It appears that the waterpup is leaking out the hole in the bottom of the waterpump pulley shaft. My Haynes makes a reference to "weep hole".

Any idea whats going on with the water pump, is it toast.. or...?

Thanks guys!

Its toast. If waters coming out of the weep hole, that means the bearing seal is going, and its time for a new one. Thats why the weep hole exists, so you know when to change it. If it wasn't there, one day you'd be driving, the bearing at this point is so blown that the pully starts to wobble, the belt slips and your on the highway and your temps creep up to H instantly, blowing your engine.

yeah dude its done... if your fan clutch is staying engaged up all the way to redline, this can cause the waterpump bearing to die.

ive been through two waterpumps until i got smart about it and did the electric fan install.
