water thermo sensor

Does anyone know if an N/A and turbo up to year '88 uses the same sensor? I'm having a major headache trying to figure this hesitation out. Everything seems to check ok that's related to "0" vacuum.
When it sees "0" vacuum, the car starts to hesitate for a couple seconds and revs to redline. What's strange is it seems to be running lean now and then at idle and cruise. The A/F gauge doesn't lean out when the hesitation happens though. It sort of sounds like a rev limiter. Those who are wondering, it's not at 3800rpm but at any rpm . The sensor checked out ok but *MAYBE* the resistor is loose inside.
