Its hitting this with me only driving her about 1/2 mile, not ragging on it. WTF?

Your thermostat is stuck or you have a serious air bubble.

wasnt driving .. this was in my driveway. I shut it off once I saw it crank that high.

I think once you hit 110 = fuxor.

i think the motor will take up to nearly 240F coolant temps, although you dont really wanna see anything over like 215F

108C (about 230) is the temperature at which the cooling fans on the FD and the Rx-8 go to full speed. Get above that for sustained driving and you should start worrying.

It's metal. A few hundred degrees at least. i.e., after the coolant boils and there's nothing touching the housing except steam and 4000 F combustion gases. Though I think the Racing Beat site talks about excessive apex seal wear too much above 200 degrees. Probably thermal expansion or something.

106C / 223 F is exactly the temperature of boiling 50% antifreeze at 0 psi. I'd replace your thermostat and check/replace your pressure cap just in case. Boiling = trouble.

^+1. thats the function of the radiator cap. it keeps the cooling sytem under pressure, greatly increasing boiling point

I had my cosmo to 253*F once when the fan shrowd exploaded and fucked up my fan

I kept it running for about 15min hovering around that temp and got it to a house with a hose and just missted the radiator till i got it down to 180.

Did an oil change that night and the oil came out like water. Drove on that motor another year before tearing it down, never had an issue
