i am about to do the water trick to my 87 n/a and need to know witch vac line to use and how to get water into the line. if you have some pics it would help or just a description of the best line to use to get both chambers. i have searched quite a bit and cant find a thread with the exact line to use.

Dont worry about vaccume lines. Just pop out your air filter (TEMPORARY) and load a mister bottle up with distilled water. Spray it on in.

EDIT: Dont do this in a dust storm.

well i just did it and ran about a litre through it keeping it around 4k rpm. i used the bigger vac line on the front of the intake, its the one on top out of the three and is about twice the size of the other two. if anyone else has used this one please post your results.

I think your talking about the vac nipple for the MOP... You should use a different one.

I seriously have no clue why people use vaccume lines. You get a better mist (more of the water can be used for cleaning) if you spray it through the intake.

EDIT! In reference to my previous post, I can see where people misunderstood. I'll put it in easier to read, step by step form :

Step 1) Fill mister bottle with distilled water
Step 2) Take off top of airbox and air filter
Step 3) Turn on car
Step 4) Use the mister to spray the water into the open intake
Step 5) When you have emptied the mister, reattach the air filter and box

And you're done!

tofuball i had never considered doing this until i read your post. that makes it so easy.......ill see what the "elite group" have to say about that method.

how do you keep the water out of the AFM with this "method"?

Wonder how many people said "Oh ****" to themselves when a WET AFM is brought to attention.

Mainly because the ammount of water injected (that we're talking about here) is very small really.

The reason its near on immposible to hydrolock a rotary with water is because rotaries have very bad sealing properties when the oil is washed away from the housing at low RPMs. But that has nothing to do with this water steam cleaning being talked about here.

Rotaries can't hydrolock.


And spraying water through the intake is not a good idea at all. Like Icemark said, you would be spraying water right through the AFM, which believe it or not is an electrical device. From what I have read, the best way is to remove the vac boost line and dip that into a container of water while someone holds the throttle down.

god i am so stupid, i just did this with my car and once i was done i realized it was the wrong vac line, i checked my oil and it looks like it is half water. would this be safe to drive if i premix before taking it 20 miles to get oil changed? how much could it harm the engine?

Look at the part that I circled on this pic. It is the vac boost sensor, and there is a hose that connects to the bottom of it. Remove the hose where it connects to the sensor, and leave the other end connected to the plenum on the engine housing. I'm gonna try to find the thread on this, I'm pretty sure Kevin Landers posted an extensive writeup on it.

And if your engine is full of water and oil, change the oil yourself, don't drive it anywhere yet.

**Just for future precaution, don't attempt something like this unless you are absolutely positive about what you are doing

does that hose off the boost sensor run to both chambers? i know that was the big debate in other threads, what ones go to both chambers

Augh! Icemark is right! (I'm so used to doing this on cars with carbs!!)

Then just pull off the AFM and spray from there? Or get a longish tube, stick the misting nozzle at the end of the tube, and run that through the AFM?
