Water pump pulley hitting water pump
I just changed my water pump due to the bearing going out. Took it for a test drive and under boost the engine was making a weird grinding noise. I looked everything over and noticed the water pump pulley is to close to the water pump itself. under rpm it's hitting the water pump.. It doesn't touch it just reving without driving. Should i grind the casting a little? The pump has a part of the cast that comes out more the the body of the pump.. What should i do? Thanks

It's hitting the cast ribs on the pump. I think when they made it the ribs come out to much. If i just rev it no problem. But when i get on it driving i can hear it.. I will try and grind it a little.. should work..

was it a new pump? because typically speaking anythign like that that you need to grind is not a good thing....
plus if the shaft moves in and out the grinding you are hearing might not only be the pulley on the outside of the housing but might also be the impeller against the inside of the housing......
if this is a new unit I'd remove it ASAP before they say, oh there is no way this was mfr'd like this look at the damage on it!! Because that might happen unless you have a lot of leverage with the store, i.e. you are a shop or know the store very well.
Either way I wouldn't be grinding ****, and I'd be taking that pump off there ASAP
