Looks to be a Federal emissions trim N326 model engine, from a 1986-87.5 49 state non turbo (Probably a base model). It is the 13B found stock in the 86-88 non turbos. It has been slightly tweaked and is missing quite a few trim parts.

That appears to be a 86-87 with emissions removal, a dual alt pulley, and no power steering, with an aftermarket radiator.

That's the Mazda OEM all metal radiator... It was an dealer option upgrade, and can be found on quite a few FC's...

Eh, wrong.

There was no "dealer option" metal end tanks radiator.

That is a replacement radiator, but it is by no means a dealer option. It is the standard plastic end tank radiator found on all 87.5 and later models.

Stop making things up!

notice the very conspicuous absence of any variety of air filter

dont start it just yet

it looks as though you would need a cone-type filter

Ok you're right... I checked into it, and it's a direct replacement radiator available at various places, including Mazdatrix... All apologies...

Nope, I just pulled a motor out of an 88 GXL Auto and it had the original plastic radiator in it.

But now that you mention it, the second tank (at the bottom) you mentioned for the trans might have been metal...Hmmm

I hate the plastic radiators because they always crack on me during the worst times.

I hate plastic anythings that have a hot fluid passing through them. It all spells disaster at some point.
