wastegate reference point

Just a thought, how much difference does it make where you reference your wastegate. 99% of the time, it seems to be right off the turbo compressor for internal wastegates, But on externals, is there any downside to actuating it after the TB? I realize that this would close the wastegate when you let off the throttle, as opposed to keeping it open full tilt until the pressure in the charge tube lowered to less than the spring was set for, but would this really cause any problems?

WG vacuum reference point closer to the turbo will allow the WG to open / react faster.
It's a more mild boost ramp.

The more you move the vacuum reference point away from the turbo (compressor), the more the WG "lags" and the boost tends to spike initially.
