WARNING!!!...to those with gutted cats...
Last autumn I gutted my cats on my stock exhaust. Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. But I had a good reason. Prior to this I was boosting, at best, 2psi with my mostly stock '89T2. Since then I've been getting the usual flamage and popping. Well, at least until tonight. I've had pops that have been loud, but nothing like this. It felt as though the back of my car had lifted off of the ground. After this my exhaust was louder. Once I got home I was able to see what had happened. The driverside muffler canister had EXPLODED! Not just a little split, but completely wide open. Like a flower bloom out the side of it. Needless to say this is the impetus for me to finally suck it up and get a cat-back. I was about to get one in a few weeks anyway. Bahhh! I've been looking for one that would bolt right up to my RS*R 3" frontpipe. Most ones I've seen start out at less than 3" then flares out to more. I need one that is at least or larger than 3" from tip to end. Oh well, it's time to make my decision.
Let this be a warning to all of you out there with the gutted stock setup. Those flames and pops catch up to you eventually. The stock canisters don't like that too much.

no bought cat back will be 3" at the flange as they are made to bolt to the stock cat. and if your down pipe bolts to the stock cat then it's not 3" at the flange either anyways....
corksport just came out with a new one, very cheap!! full SS.

I wish mine would shoot some freaking flames.
I have lots of pops 'n ****. but no flames.
my pre cats are gutted and I have a race pipe main cat.
a straight pipe. then to my stock mufflers.
Any tips on quick flames. I almost put some spark plugs
into the mufflers but decided not to. Late Matt22

Damn thats nice. I was thinkin about the apex dual N-1s but it looks very heavy and is kinda pricy. plus Im pretty sure if the y pipe on the apex is 2 1/2" at the front. That cork sport system looks very nice!

The same thing happened to my 1st gen. My leading plug wire slipped off the coil one cold morning. My friend and I were just cruising along,,,,then...,,CAABOOOM. Sounded like a cannon. Blew my muffler wide open!!!
Flames are natural for a rotary.. Open exhaust, straight through muffler(s), walaa flames

Corksport is 3 all the way back than goes down to 2.5, I am extremelly interested in it though it does go out the driver side and I was wondering how this would effect weight ratio? And is the Apexi N1 Single that heavy?

I ordered the Corksport exhaust late Tuesday afternoon and it came in on Thursday. Wowzers!!! I'll be putting it on tomorrow. $303 shipped to my door. This thing looks friggin' awesome.
I have pics of the exploded muffler, but I need to have them hosted to post them I guess.

I wish Corksport was that fast shipping my stuff!!!
I spent over $1,000 there and I am still waiting to get my stuff.
Type 2 Front Bumper
4 KVR Xdrilled rotors
a set of Hawk HP+ pads

is that single corksport exhaust really just $289?????
thats a bad *** looking piece. almost like the n1..but without the pre muffler.
i want that thing.
thats pretty weird that your canister exploded like that. must have looked crazy for anyone driving behind you.
i throw massive flames out the back of my turbo2.
my mufflers are made by sebring, they are straight threw stainless cans. they sound awsome. i have a 3 inch Y pipe, gutted cat, and a 3 inch mindtrain exhaust.
gets alittle anoying on the highway though...i have to really pump my stereo to even hear it clear.
i need to get some kind of sound proofing or something to shut up the mufflers inside the car.

Hey guys...This exhaust you guys keep talking about is it pretty nice looking...I have straight pipe all the way from the manifold to the Apex-i Dunk Series Muffler and I am not to impressed with the sound...It really sounds kinda wimpy...Kinda sounds like a turbo whine...It shoots a 3 foot flame out of the back of it at night sometimes...During decelaration...I was wondering if that Corksport is a really nice unit or not...Post again and let me know...I might purchase one...
