Warning Desperate MacGyver $h1t

Ok so i need some quick help. My leading coil pack died and left me stranded and a replacement coil is a few days out. My question is could you wire the trailing ignitor to fire both the trailing coils like the leading coil is fired, and use it as the leading coil?

I have two different ideas:

#1: The Stupid Idea.

use the trailing coil pack as leading. connect 12v power to both primary coils of the trailing pack. connect the IGT-L from ECU to IGT-T of trailing (connect leading signal to trail coil input). Ignore IGS-T (trailing select). find the wires that go to both primary coils of the trailing pack from the ignitor, assuming there are wires.. i cant remember, and connect one of those wires to both primary coils.

If it works I could see burning up the ignitor from the heavier load.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#2: The Mildly Retarded Idea...

Do the same thing EXCEPT stop at "Ignore IGS-T (trailing select)" And then MacGyver two spark plug wires into which ever coil on the trailing pack is firing. Would one coil even fire two sparkplugs.? i see a problem with the path of least resistance.

If it works, I expect to shock the **** out of myself.

Any advice or ideas are welcome, and yes i understand that this is stupid... just play along if you think it might actually work.

thanks but not too helpful. its either make something work or ride a motorcycle with a bald rear tire in the snow tomorrow...

worse case i burn up a trailing coil or kill my stock ecu. It will run without a trailing and i have a spare standalone if the ecu cooks.

Don't do it, you'll most likely end up with a mess and a blown motor. Just wait for the replacement to come in =P.

If you really need to drive somewhere not so far away, I've taken a few short trips in my previous car with just the trailing.

my car wont start on trailing. I have always been under the impression that trailing doesnt fire during cranking... could be my misconception.

mess, yes. but i cant see it blowing the motor. the spark angle would still be the same as the ecu controls that. Plus i have a rebuild tii engine ready to drop in so a blown na motor doesnt matter much to me right now.

Try push starting it to see if it will catch on just the trailing coils. If it does fire up stay out of high rpm because of the instability of the spark

Yeah blown motor was stretching it but the point really was that when you mess with something that doesn't really need to be messed it opens the door for trouble. Plus if you have a replacement on the way it just seems like a waste of time to me.

and just went outside and started my car with trailing only. Took a little more time to start but it started.

ha true. but im an engineering student so thats what i do.

well thanks, i now recall a time when i started an s4 on trailing only. I could assume my s5 should start on them... but that assumption leads to more troubling issues. as there is more to the story.

Hm, I think you might want to see if the trailing is actually firing. Have you actually verified that the leading coil is actually out?
