---warning To All That Want To Make Their Own Pineapple Type Sleeves!!!--

well..i fixed the idle problem i have had for over a month now.. all i had to do was reset my ECU and it was running smooth.. but.. anyways.. at that same time. i made myself some Pineapple type sleeves, al i did was cut the regular sleeves with a cutting wheel at a 45* angle at the end, and JB welded a flat pecie of aluminum so that it would be going up in a ramp style fashion.. looked good... flowed great (water tested). Went for a test drive after the idle was fixed, was nice, pulled good.... got warmed up.. started acting kinda funny. we all know what happened, the "JB Weld" failed and sent about a 1x2" peice of aluminum into my engine and ripped it apart.. i have no idea how in the hell it got in there, bc it was bigger than the hole but.. somehow, as my luck has it.. it did. so, just make sure that your materials are up to par. Please, no flames, i know that im a total moron and that my engine blew bc of my own ignorance and stupidity, im just trying toss out a warning. Thank you, anyone have an S4 block for sale?

I was thinking of not cutting the sleeves, but filling them in with JB weld or Devcon to create a better flow. Maybe I should just suck it up and pay the 49$ for the Pineapple sleeves.

Aw man, that ******* sucks. Sorry to hear that. I think Roy James' right. Just pay the money & get it over. Well, at least it was your car & not someone else's (too bad it was done on a RX-7 though). Now you can learn from your mistakes.

Use teflon and then grind it. It is rated at higher temps...

Or just pay $50 and buy some top-quality, pressed-in, CNC machined sleeves from a guy who is a great supporter and innovator in the 2nd-gen community...

I used nylon for the sleeves, it has a melting point nearly as high as teflon, and is cheaper, and more readily available.

Charles, now why didnt you wait just a few days to get my extra pair ofsleeves with nylon inserts? Would have saved you an engine. You know what? You blow engines more often than I change my oil.

I got a friend who doesn't change his oil, ( once in a blue moon) he just blows his motor and gets another 1st gen. Well once his motor went because he didn't change his oil.

I change my oil very religiously at 2500 miles. But I think this is the third engine he has blown in the past few months.

Sorry to hear! FYI To anyone who "doesn't like to wait for the shipping".

Rob is a great guy! I called him and he talked to me on the phone for 20 minutes like I was his best friend! He asked about my engine, mods, and what not... Anyway, he sent my sleeves out that day. (BEFORE I SENT HIM MY CORES!) And he dosn't charge you a core charge up front. The sleeves showed up USPS Priority 3 days latter as promissed. (WA State to PA) All he asks is that you send your old ones back within a week or two...

You can't ask for better service and you have NO REASON to be cheap and make your own.

Wow... that's brutal.
You already know how I did mine... cut the whole side off, and cut the end with the crossbar out, then filled a countour with high temp 2 part aluminum-carrying putty epoxy.
It's holding up just fine, and I've been beating on it!
I'm a little surpirised that the Jbweld didn't hold... Wasn't it argued that it wouldn't in a previous thread though? Never mind... that was a manifold leak.
Hope to see you back on the road soon!!
Oh, anyone who doesn't know their chemicals and their properties, and who doesn't want to risk ruining their engine, just buy the damn 50$ pinapple sleeves. Just cut the open side up all the way too, and if they aren't being actuated, chop the crossbar off too.
Cheapest 7 hp out there.
