WA Wanting to Swap my Tansmission

I have a 88 n/a gxl, right now it is automatic. I have been looking and found a 5 speed manual Turbo Tranny. i've searched the forums for info on swaping A/t to M/t but all i can find are "i just finished my swap....." threads. so im sorry if this is asked over and over again.

My first question is will a 5-speed Turbo Trans. mount/fit correctly in my N/a?

My second question is what all do i need to buy to do the swap?
Do i need to buy new mounts? bolts? gaskets? seals? etc?

I know ill have to get a new flywheel, electrical harness and the pedals obviously, other than that i am lost. any help, advice or links to threads that i couldn't find would be greatly appreciated.

Lander's has pretty much everything you need to know:

The biggest debate/issue is that the crossmember mounts are in different locations. The absolute best method to remedy this is to get the mounts from a parts car and weld them into yours. There are a lot of various ways to go about making a mounting solution to work though if you can't find the mounts themselves (not exactly easy to locate).

Your on the right track, but unless your swapping in a turbo motor in the foreseeable future, it's not worth spending the money for the turbo tranny (IMO) as it costs next to nothing for second hand N/A trannies and the money saved would be better suited to swapping Miata internals to give you some better gearing.

TII trannies on the other hand are pretty bullet proof and since you're going from auto to 5-speed the parts list will look the same. Tranny, crossmember, mounts, pedal set, hydraulics, lines (hard and soft), flywheel, driveshaft (will have to go with custom from somewhere like mazdatrix if using turbo tranny), etc. Just a bit more pricey with the TII tranny.

My first question is will a 5-speed Turbo Trans. mount/fit correctly in my N/a?
YES!! but you need extender mounts.. Unless car has manual mount setup.
You will need to bypass the Nutral switch from the auto tran wires...

My second question is what all do i need to buy to do the swap?

You will need a clutch peddle Break peddle. (have fun changing them I did)
You will need a TURBO CLUTCH DISK if you have the Turbo tran. NA clutch wont work.
pressure plate and flywheel... take the flex plate off..

You will need clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder with the hose..
You will need a SHORTER Driveline for Turbo car.. Auto driveline wont work.
Need new starter.. Auto starter wont work...

Change the rear end... Gotta take subframe off... DONT use the auto rear end. TRUST ME YOU WILL HATE IT.. WHILE ITS OFF REPLACE THE FRONT LSD MOUNT!!! You will regret it later if you dont replace the FRONT LSD Mount

Do i need to buy new mounts? bolts? gaskets? seals? etc? the manual is a shorter tranny. so it will not line up to the auto bolt holes.. You need extention bars that are bolted into the auto mount holes that will line up to where the manual holes will be.. or get new ears and weld new ones on..

Gaskets/seals? Its a good idea to replace the rear main ( OF THE TRANNY ) while its out and when you change drivelines .. why not. Not sure i replaced many if any seals besides the rear tranny seal..

Im sure im leaving things out ill add to it later if something comes back to mind..
I did my swap last year so
If you have questions ask i been threw this

About the starter... Make sure it is a TII starter and not an N/A starter...made that mistake and had to wait a week for my swap to start up
