WANTED: gauge info

Ok,so I'm doing some mods to my 88 turbo 2. I need a boost gauge and a air fuel ratio gauge. I found them at rx7store but the gauge pods are for 52 mm gauges and the a/f ratio gauge is 60 mm. will the 60 mm gauge fit in the pod? If I go with the simple led a/f meter, which looks to be about 1"x 4" where could I install it without it looking stupid. Any opinions on greddy, apexi, etc..
Also looking for electronic boost controller? opinions on that ? what about the profec b?

thanks for the help

save the money on the A/F gauge and buy an EGT instead.

the 60mm gauges will fit in the 52mm pods. just gota make the hole a bit bigger.

a/f guages= teh useless for tunning. And sometimes they don't even read half way accurate to just igeve you an idea of what is going on.

He has one of the best rotary tuners on town working on his car, so that's not an issue. He just wants to know which brands and models of gauges are good, which boost controllers are good, and suggestions for mounting all these goodies.

I personally suggest in the following order;
Defi, Apexi, HKS, Greddy. I am currently looking for old school HKS with the red lettering to replace my autocrap (autometer) guages (autometer) becaue they are out by some redicuous amounts.
ie. boost gauge is out by 5-6 psi at 15(true) psi.
the egt I cannot be certain till i get another better one but seems to be out by about 75deg C.

-Yes, the 60mm will fit in the pod with a little filing/grinding, but it'll look funny next to the 52 mm gauge, being slightly larger.

-IMHO, the greddy, Apexi, HKS gauges are all no better than the other, and they are all overpriced. Defi makes pretty nice gauges for cheaper(I think), as do a few other companies. Just stay away from the cheapo gauges like Autometer.

-The profec B is a great boost controller, decently priced, easy to tune, and wildly popular with our cars, I would fully recommend it.

Ok guys so who says that Auto Meter gauges suck ?
If they suck, then why do these guys that race top fuel, and Nascar use Auto Meter gauges if they suck ?
Auto Meter has been arounfd for quite some time. And im really surprised to hear that people dont like there gauges, same thing I heard on a thread on the TeamFC3S Forum as well. Can anyone tell me why they suck, and what proff do they have they suck ?

Do autometer gauges generally read off on all cars or is it just an rx7 thing? The fact that there are people that question autometer gauge accuracy makes me want to steer clear.

Autometer boost gauge seems to work alright on my friend's turbo RSX. He's currently using it to diagnose a problem where his boost falls off to 5 after he shifts. He should be boosting to 10, which he does in first.

The Autometer Ultra Lites hold true to their merit. I have seen In mags and person that this Is what they use. So, I'll assume they are reliable. However, other series ie. Phantoms vary In output. I am personally a GReddy guy. I have everything GReddy, except a HKS EVC.

If you don't like "hogging" out the 2-1/16" pods, you can get away with using the 2-5/8" pods from a 1987-1993 Mustang. Yes, this is not a TRUE fit, so if you're ****, you need to file the pod down for perfection. I used to run a pair of GReddy 60mm P/H gauges, and the fit *inside* the pods, but I used some pieces of double-sided foam tape (about 1/4" thickness) which made everything snug.

My preference is:
BEST - HKS, GReddy, Blitz
GOOD - Defi, A'PEXi
CHEAP - VDO

I tend to stay away from Autometer, as I've seen to many problems with them. VDO is a better alternative over Autometer, IMO.

The high end Autometers are ok. I'd stay away from the $50 or so line of gauges. I have one of their low end boost gauge and its not so great. I like my Apexi one much better.
