W.G. Flapper misaligned?

I recently removed my S4 Turbo from the exhaust manifold because I needed to port my wastegate. When I removed the turbo, I noticed that the w.g. flapper floor was not completely "up" meaning, if I put the tubo back on, the flapper door would not have been completely butted up against the runner, instead, it would have been cracked open at a 45 degree angle to the turbo.

Is this simply because there's no pressure going to the w.g. so the flapper door just hangs there? Any info on this would help. Thanks

With the wastegate still attached it sould be completely closed. Does the wastegate rod have any play to it? Sounds like the spring is damaged.

No play in the rod. The W.G. rod has a little square block that attaches the flapper door hinge to the W.G. rod. It's looking like this block shouldn't be there and if removed, would place the flapper door level with the manifold opening. The W.G. rod "pushes" on the flapper hinge to open the runner up to exhaust gases, correct?

Correct

Can you post a pick of the block? I've never seen that before.

I knew you were going to ask. Unfortunately, I can't tak e a picture from my cell phone (too new don't know how to use yet), or my digital (still unpacking). If I find it soon, I'll post it. I believe the piece is on all W.Gs. It allows the W.G. rod and the flapper lever to move smoothly together, I guess.

RXJIM,

Got your PM. Thanks for the link. Freak thing happened... I looked into the wastegate and noticed a metal shard wedged in between the arm and the spring making it stick in the open position! I have no idea how it got there. Anyway, I Mighty Vac it after I got the piece out and all is working properly. Thanks for your help
