You didn't happen to live in Mass at the time? It could have been my yellow.

Back then, it was even more of a blast to have an Rx7. Autocrosses had no clue what class to run us in and me and 2 other friends use to attend those and hillclimbs and clean up.

The only cars that could keep up with us was a TR8 coupe and a turbo Morgan. Corvettes and Mustangs just couldn't handle well enough and the Datsuns didn't have enough torque.

I know you like me have owned a number of Rx7s. Which one was your favorite at the time?

I'd have to say it was a tie between my 88 Ragtop and my 82 GSL. The GSL was a big stepup from the 79 S and the ragtop was back to my drop top roots of my British cars but with guts and no nasty oil leaks...

Oh,...Memory Lane, huh? OK... First car - '57 Chevy 2-door Bel Air, bought for $250 in 1972. Out with the old engine, in with the hot rod 283. Good learning experience for a 16 year-old kid. Next, '65 Corvette, 327, 2 tops, bought in 1974 for $1,500 (Yes, fifteen HUNDRED dollars) needed nothing. Sold in '78 for $3,000. If I only knew then... Between those 2 cars, at today's values, Pheeeew. I'd have a shiny low-mileage FD in the driveway now. And a 911. Mike B. - Which Healey? BJ8? I've got a '71 Midget. Ever been to Britfest in NJ in the spring? My club puts on that show. How much of your money does Moss Motors have?!! I'll be at Lime Rock for the Labor Day Weekend Vintage Festival (Just Saturday for me.) Will you be there?

Sorry to interrupt the flow of nostalgia here fellas....

But back to my problem. Nothing like logging on from the local library cause it's my day off...

Alright, I finally accurately tested the coil packs and CAS. All are testing fine. Packs are reading a solid 1 ohm each, and the CAS read 165.

So wtf? I was beginning to wonder if maybe it IS a fuel issue, but regardless, I should still be getting spark, right? Neither pack will arc at all.

I do have the FSM now, so reference that if need be when trying to advise me on what to do. I'm stuck. This blows.

As far as "why not just rebuild it" because the motor is so old, well, yes, that'd be the obvious answer, but I don't have the money to do that right now, so it's entirely out of the question. I don't need the car to run well, I just need it mobile under it's own power, which it was until a week ago.

What to check next?

Go to your LEAD COIL ASSY. See the small, two wire, white connector???? Pull it apart. Put the meter positive lead on the black/yellow wire. Put the negative lead on a good ground. Turn the key to ON. Have the meter on VOLTS. The meter should read 12v approx. If not....then there will be no spark, ever, and ever and evere.

If there is 12v on the black/yellow wire, do the following........Go to you boost/pressure sensor. Pull the plug off. Put the neg lead on a good ground. Put the meter on volts. Put the positive lead on the BROWN/WHITE WIRE. There should be b/t 4 and 5 volts there. If not.......you ain't never gonna get spark til that problem is fixed. It's nothing to do with the presusre sensor. It's everything to do with what is called the REFERENCE VOLTAGE output on the brown/white wire. That lack of four volts means the ECU ain't working right and it might very well have a burnt out power supply. Maybe not. Maybe there is a lack of 12v going TO the ECU. Only by looking at the small plug on the ECU will you be able to determine the lack of 12v power to the ECU.

Pete,

My primary is a 59 BT7. I'm also playing with the idea of building a rotary bugeye. There use to be a kit in Texas area that was out in the 1980s. If someone knows of this kit, I'd be real interested...

I may be making Lime Rock this year seeing that it's a Healey weekend. Unfortunately I wouldn't be taking the Healey cause I'm trying to talk my brother into taking my nephew to his big sportscar race so we'll be taking the sedan...
