Exclamation Vin# on the motor??

Ok I know on Honda's it tells you what type of motor you have on the block in the front under the headers, so the question is where is it located on a 13b?? And do the 13b motors have vin# on them & where are they located??

13B is stamped on the top driver's side of each rotor housing, you can see it above the spark plugs embossed into the housings. this engine identification is also located on the top of the upper intake manifold on non turbo models and labeled on the intercooler on turbo models.

as far as i know none of the Aspec motors have VIN numbers on their engines.

S5 motors have an electrical OMP(oil metering pump) with an electrical connector on it whereas S4 has a standard mechanical OMP with no electrical connections. S5 engines also have a plastic thermostat housing/filler neck.

if it were to have a VIN stamp, the only feasable spot i can think of for it would be on the top of the front iron housing.

why does it matter if the engine has a VIN? what are you trying to do with this engine? easy way to check, if the engine still has the water pump on it, look at the top radiator hose outlet if it is metal it is an S4, if it is plastic it is an S5.

all the original factory installed motors have an engine number stamped on the front iron kind of under the alternator. it doesnt correspond to the vin number though.

What he said ..........................see the 1987 Factory Service Manual, Section G, page G-9. Don't have a 87? Get one. humor

MOTOR number, not VIN on the engine

See this site http://www.mazdaformance.com/rx7parts.htm for a breakdown on what your VIN number stands for and other trivia. Go to the engine section and read the first few pages. It breaks down he VIN and other trivia. I'm sure the chassis section does the same thing.

Anything built after mid 1987 should be high impedence.

or u can take them out and measure it with the ohm meter..if the engine isnt from the car....then u probably cant tell right away....kevin landers explains it on his site but im not sure if it applies to J spec as well...either way....ohm meter will tell all....

Did you check the OMP(oil metering pump), does it have an electrical connector. Does the engine have a plastic thermostat housing/filler neck. If so, then the engine is an S5, 1989-91.
