VIN # locations on motor and trans?

I have to go get my car inspected in a couple weeks(rebuilt salvage title) and they told me I need to have receipts for any body panel or engine/transmission I have replaced. Body panels arn't a problem, but are there any VIN numbers located on the transmission or engine itself? I think I could get away with saying they are the originals if they don't, but I just want to make sure...

just tell them they are original, there is a serial number on the engine only which can only be cross referenced from mazda and good luck getting the info out of them.

There shouldnt be a problem, my car was a salvage title too. They never asked me for receipts or even what work i did to the car to make it driveable again.

Still, I'd like to check everything out just to be sure. I have to drive 1.5 hours to the inspection place, and I've been told they can confiscate your car if they find stolen parts...

Can anyone tell me where exactly the VIN #'s would be located on the engine and trans? I've never seen them, especially on the engine, but I wasn't really looking before.

top left of the front iron is a crudely stamped engine # which does not correlate to the VIN of the car, as i mentioned only Mazda corporate can tell you what VIN car the engine came from and getting that info out of them is like pulling teef.
