Vin ????
How do you tell if your car is an early 87 model or not? The earlier models had the resistor pack for the injectors with low impedence ones right? I want to upgrade mine but I don't know what to get. Somebody please help me out!

I am going with a large streetported s4 motor, greddy T67 turbo kit, FMIC, 3in DP/MP, Walbro, some kind of FPR,and an SAFC. Thanks for the pic Kai, I'll check it out tonight. That means I can go with the low imp. injectors if I got it.

No. 86 to 87 1/2 had low impedence injectors. The 87 1/2 and newer are all high impedence.
All you need to do is remove the afm/filter assy and see if you have a solenoid resistor package bolted to the fender below those two items. It's silver in color and one and a half inches wide and about four inches long. It's shown in the fsm. The fuel section.
The vin number is on this site somewhere.

No. That item behind the headlight area is the Fuel Pump and Resistor. On a series four it is only found on a turbo model. The n/a series four did not have it.
The Solenoid Resistor is found below the afm/filter, mounted on the fender.
The *thread* I gave a link to, had/has the vin number where the break in high/low resistance injectors occured. That is why I suggested looking only at HAILERS in that thread because THERE lies the link to the VIN NUMBER.
I've posted pictures of the solenoid resistor on this site in the past.
NO 88 was ever made with low impedence injectors ever. If you have them the car was modified.
HERE IS THE VIN: If you need the chassis number of the mid 87 model where the resistance of the injectors went from low to high, its chassis number 550169.
Those are the words in the url I attached in an above post.
Go buy a subscription to ALLDATA.COM and you can look at the service bulletins that deal with the injector change from high to low resistance and the chassis number etc.
