vibration probs after clutch change!
I have an 88' vert that recently had some tranny problems.
About 4-5 wks ago replaced clutch, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing due to grinding noise in tranny. Turned out to be bad pilot bearing, but regardless , i changed everything since it was torn down. Car seemed fine for 1st week or 2. But, the past 2 weeks thing have progressively gotten worse. There is a metallic clunk when engaging lower gears ( especially when cold) and a vibration in 4th and 5th ( originally when cold, but now pretty constant). Yesterday, even 3rd gear was vibrationally rough when cold. I also changed the tranny fluid while down. The clanging while engaging the lower gears is sporadic depending on clutch manipulation, but the intense vibration (especially when cold) upon acceleration in higher gears is getting worse and remains constant to some degree. I've searched the forum and found several possibities, primarily drive shaft, but i just want to see if anyone knows or has had this problem immediately after a clutch and bearing change. It just seems very coincidental that this started only after the swap. Also upon searching and reading the haynes manual it suggests marking the drive shaft in the differential. This was not done since everything was being changed and I thought a drive shaft was balanced or not, meaning not balanced to a fitting to the differential. If this is the problem, can I rotate the shaft until a proper balance is maintained? This also makes me wonder tho, if that was the issue, wouldn't the vibration have been there from day 1, and not have gotten progressively worse? I know this vibration issue has been discussed at length, but i didnt find anything specific to a post clutch change. There was no problem with vibration before this. Thanks very much in advance for any help offered.

check your u-joints, sounds like you have a coincidental problem that has nothing to do with the clutch.
edit: marking the driveshaft could cause a vibration but the vibration would not get progressively worse as time went on, i would cross that off your list of possibilities.
