Unhappy Convertible Power Antenna

My power antenna pooped out on me.

I can find them at the salvage yards for coupes, but the Mazda dealership told me the power antennas for the 2nd generation coupe won't work in a convertible. Is that true, or are they just trying to sell me a new one?

I appreciate your help. Thanks!

maybe he is confusing the Miata with the RX-7, because they are the same other than the mounting on the fender.

I've bought antennas for both off ebay. Same antennas, seem to work fine.

Thanks Mark. I knew you would know. I thought that you had something written up about how to change them or adjust them or something.
